Great report overall. Easy to follow. I've also gotten to the point of playing more 'toned' down lists and have found it has made for more enjoyable games.
I really liked the additional touches to the terrain. The Ork sign and the GW banner on a ruin is a great touch.
Thanks for sharing.
No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.
I love the terrain. All of those little posters and billboards are a nice touch. How did you paint the righting on that boxing poster? The one that says "IN THE PIT"

Love the report. One thing, I understand that you chose your warlord traits, but if you use the farsight enclaves you would not have access to no scatter on the deep strike as that is a codex Tau trait.

The little posters are actually just print outs. Back when GW wasn't evil they had a free pdf for cities of death signs hosted on their site.

Thanks for pointing that out, I'll let LUTNIT know. Cheers.

And the one time I use non-rule book powers I use them wrong I totally forgot Farsight Enclave have their own warlord traits. I just remember Farsight himself has the no scatter deep strike one and figured I could take it without double checking.
Really great battrep guys! The terrain was perfect and everything was well painted.
You guys did a great job explaining the things that happened quickly and clearly. I especially liked the post game thoughts and I really like the more casual and relaxed approach you guys seem to take to the game.
Good point in the beginning on picking your warlord trait, I imagine it would add some extra strategic depth to some armies.
There were a couple of things I noticed you guys did wrong (unless you're house ruling and forgot to mention). The suits are only supposed to be able to jump 6" in any direction and this is supposed to include vertical movement so..... that riptide had like super thrusters or something . At the end the overwatch shouldnt have been able to hit both the terminators and the chaplain unless you joined them togeather, unless you did and I just misunderstood.
overall I loved the battrep and I hope you guys make more.

We got tired of silly things like where one guy has an ork warboss on bike who is scoring and the other guys gets +1VP for characters killed in challenges when they're playing guard. One side has such a huge random advantage it doesn't make any sense.
Or Chaos getting hatred space marines when facing off against Eldar.

The thrust move is 2D6" in 6th ed. but I don't remember what I rolled in that instance. If a riptide uses it's nova reactor to thrust it's 4D6".
The rules actually don't cover how height effects movement except for ruins. We where playing the intact buildings as just impassible, not a ruin, so there is no choice but to house rule it. We don't count vertical movement because it makes no sense for a model to be able to jump clear over a huge tower to the other side (since they ignore all intervening terrain) but somehow can't land on top because "it's too high up".
In ruins you are correct though; you measure the movement on a diagonal from the starting to end points. This is the only time in the rules that height of terrain is mentioned for movement. It still makes little sense though since a jump pack unit could go clear over the top and down the other side of a 13" tall ruin so long as it's less than 12" wide. In this case they move ~38" total yet they can't land on the roof because it's 13" away. I know we're trying to apply logic to a game that inherently doesn't subscribe to logic but it's one of our house rules.

The Chaplain jumped to within 2" of the terminator so they where joined. Since it all happened between video clips it wasn't in the video.
We're pretty good when it comes to rules, the only time we mess things up is usually when its in a part of the BRBfaq that we're unfamiliar with. Honestly I think the warlord trait (LUTNITs) is the only rule weve screwed up in a while
I gotta say guys, beautiful table, terrain and armies but almost unwatchable in terms of pacing and personality.
There were a lot of cuts that you could of made to keep the pace up, it drags in many areas.
Gotta say though, one of the best looking games I've seen but I couldn't get passed 5 mins. Good luck on the next one.

I would accept the critique until I saw the couldn't get passed 5 min comment, seriously buddy if you're going to offer anything to be deemed constructive at least watch the whole video..
I appreciate that you also said nice things too, but in the future if you're going to offer feedback, at least do so having watched the whole batrep. Thanks.

Is it because we didn't blog about ourselves for 4 minutes at the start?
In all seriousness, having watched your most recent bat rep I don't know how you can criticize ours for bad pacing when yours could be cut down by a third...
Wow, personal attacks. Nice work. Nice to know you can take criticism well. How does that work in your real life, inter personal relationships?
Man, that must be great. So great to have lived a life where you've never been wrong so never had to have criticism before? Should I shower false adulation on you or be honest without making it a personal attack?
I did the second one and I will always do the second one.

Fair enough, but I watch these while I'm doing hobby work and it's nice to have something to grab you right at the beginning. I find the long pauses between descriptions or player interactions to be difficult to listen to or sit though. Dead air affects me deeply. You could get some background music from "incomptek.com" too keep a steady feel throughout the report. Without having the stopping and starting. Still, I'm not the foremost expert on media interactions - I took a couple of courses in college and they taught me no silences in presentations unless it's for dramatic effect.
My own personal preferences, if I'm not interested in the first 5 mins of a short-ish video I'm not going to watch the rest of it, it could get really good later on but then it's too late for a large part of the audience.
It's why the show 'Top gear' works, they basically never stop yelling at you and having catchy music. That's actually pretty obnoxious of them so a happy medium lies somewhere in the middle.

You watch it while doing something else? Can I suggest a podcast, video battle reports are a bit of a visual thing too, not everything might be conveyed by the audio alone and if you can't be asked to give your full attention it's hard to honestly assess pacing, or much else mind you.
I don't think you can claim skimask as attacking you personally, you claimed his personality as unwatchable, not exactly an ecumenical statement there either chief. Now perhaps you weren't aware he posted on dakka but really, throwing stones and glass houses and all that.

Oh, I came up with an example while I was showering that I think better explains my point. My friend started me reading this book series (My attention span for books is much longer than it is for battle reports.) It has 7 books in it (Not Harry Potter) so I read the first one and it was just 200 pages of un-engaging, uninteresting drek that I only got through out of a sense of obligation.
He asked me what I thought of the first book and I told it it was pretty terrible. Then he said; 'it's okay, the story really starts to get enjoyable in the 4th book and I told him I wasn't going to wait that long for something to get enjoyable. It should be enjoyable in the first book.
I'm also looking at you; 60 hour long JRPGs...
Now, obviously the scale of the wait is much different between internet videos and books but I feel, personally, the metaphor holds up. In the finicky world of short attention span 'Youtube' movies many people aren't going to wait through the first 5 mins of a 10-15 min long video to get to the good part.
Now this is just my style, my personal tastes, a lot of people don't like my vlog/battle report combinations I've been doing and that's fine too. As long as they don't like it because of it's genre/style rather than a lack of interaction.
I try to give it as little dead air as possible with annotations to try and keep people engaged while I blather on about my opinions on an obscure codex release. The key, I feel, is to always keep the audience listening and long pauses can a really drain a 'Youtubers' attention.

Huh, I totally phrased it wrong. That does make me look like a punk, sorry about that. I meant the personality of the video - it's speed, presentation and overall style - not the people.

Are you guys planning more in the near future?
We definitely plan on making a couple a month at the least. Winter makes that tough but as it gets warmer the frequency should increase.
A few things we really wanna work on is how we show what occured turn by turn. We don't want to zoom all over the place but at the same time if we justs cut to a tight shot of each section of the battlefield it can get confusing in terms of orientation and where things are occuring relative to others. Gonna try and find a happy medium. We're also looking to have better audio in the next little while, likely picking up some lav mics to sync it all with plural eyes.
