This is a totally laughable premise, and you surely must know it, yes? The idea that you should divorce the fact that a right-wing videographer somehow produced a piece that should stand on own and be judged without considering the source?

I mean, if I were to say, hey, I'm going to see what some prominent people have to say about the State of the Union, and I randomly select, say, Rachel Maddow, George Soros, and Alec Baldwin to interview as representatives of the average voter - would you say my methodology was suspect? Might you think it suspicious that this videographer, who is highly critical of the President, couldn't find a single person with a positive opinion of the President in his home city, where Obama enjoys a 50% approval rating? Statistically, you would think at least one person in this video would have liked what he had to say, right? It's not possible that someone who worked for Brietbart was somehow dishonest on tape, is it?

He seems like a reasonable guy to me.

When I try to do a search on the backstory for these guys, it looks like 100% of the results appear to be in the right-wing-derposphere. This is usually a pretty good sign shenanigans abound. In this case, the specific shenanigans appear to be that the people selected are almost all members of "V.O.T.E 4 Hip Hop Hoplitics", an anti-Democratic group. These guys don't like the President? Mind = blown.

One of the guys that wasn't a member of that group was a Republican nominee for a local election, and additionally a convicted felon for armed robberies, aggravated battery, and burglary, who served 20 years. One of the more amusing vagaries of our Democratic system is that while he cannot legally vote for a politician, he can be one. Please, hitch your wagons to him, don't let me stop you.

Finally, the guy that had been unemployed for 4 years and was butthurt that the minimum wage increase for federal employees "wouldn't do anything for him"... what is the rational response to that, exactly? Isn't this the sort of entitlement that leads to people posting that (made-up, untrue) Obamaphone image? Shouldn't he be all bootstrappy here instead of waiting for the President to find him a job? Maybe he should vote for Republicans instead as they're looking out for the long-term unemployed... oh, wait.

Since the group is founded by ex-convicts, and Mr. Watkins identifies himself as a founder, it seems reasonable to presume that Mr. Watkins is an ex-convict, and that maybe he should consider that his criminal record is what is making it hard for him to find gainful employment. You know, that "personal responsibility" angle, right guys?


TL;DR these guys probably aren't a fair representation of the Chicago grassroots and the guy who made the video did that on purpose

I don't have a dog in this fight, and I have not made any statement as to the source's credibility. All I'm asking for is an actual genuine rebuttal instead of the usual shooting the messenger

just like every other STOTU ever pretty much... no better or worse, just the same old meaningless talking heads doing their talking.
