Does anyone know of a good white brush-on primer available in the US? I've heard Vallejo is good but can't seem to find anywhere where it is available. I was using spray primer until now, but just got an email from my landlord that I can't spray anywhere in the building, and it's much too cold outside to prime (for me and for the spray itself).

Has anyone has any success in the past?

The Vallejo stuff is really good. Have you had a look at e-Bay?

I've yet to find Vallejo products in a local store, but there are plenty of US sources if you're willing to shop online. Aside from Ebay sellers, you can buy it from The Warstore (and other hobby shops with electronic storefront, I'm sure) and through Amazon.

I've used the (very light) grey PU primer successfully, applied both by brush and airbrush. I'd consider it worth hunting down over using gesso or testing other brush-on primers, personally.

I actually have a tub laying around (I am a painter as well), but I heard the white wasn't as good for modelling.

Some gessos are a bit too chalky or coarse, but not all. Worsed case scenario is you have to flake it off. Luckily removing gessos from miniatures is pretty easy.
