I am runing a Nurgle lord as my HQ for my CSM list, this is my loadout idea

Chaos Lord
-Mark of Nurgle
-Power Maul
-Combi Bolter

The way I see it the Power Maul makes him wound most MCs on 4s and MEQ on 2s and it has concussive.
Anyone have reasons with backing why the maul would be a bad idea?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
he also has a sigil of corruption

Best way to run nurgle lords I've found is on a bike with Power Fist and Lightning Claw (1 of each still gives bonus attack). Give him sigil and blight grenades too and he comes out around 170 points. Then buy him 5 nurgle spawn to run with and you have a fast strong unit that can fight very well. Alternatively you can stick him in a blob of cultists/marines etc.

The reason for this loadout is as follows:
S8 power fist means wounding most MC on 2+ with AP2
Lightning claw is cheaper than a second powerfist, gives the bonus attack (for 2 special weapons) and still lets him strike on initiative if he needs to for some reason
T6 means he can't be killed instantly by Smash attacks
Blight grenades protect the entire unit by preventing opponents from getting +1A when being charged

If you want even more fun, take Bel'kor and make the unit invisible for 2+ cover saves when in area terrain. Good luck to your opponent blowing through 18 x T6 2+ cover wounds

Edit:
If you want a cheap HQ instead (say you want to fit as many plague marines in as you can) then I would forget any illusions that he will win combat and go Lord + MoN + burning brand + combi-plasma. Stick him in a rhino along with his plague marine mates.

I don't think any of the power weapons are clear winners. All depends on what you want the lord to do.
Against MEQ a power sword will do more wounds against 5++ or worse, 4++ is roughly the same between sword and maul. Concussive rarely comes up at all for me. Against MC's the sword will probably do worse, again depending on invuln and whether it has 3+ armor or not. However, your setup is pretty bare bones and as is, won't be dominating much of anything in cc. A lord has a couple of much more powerful options for killing these targets. Sure it'll be more expensive but in the case of the lord, kitting him out isn't a bad deal. Look at wtnind's suggestions and how he has a clear plan on what his lord can do.

I think the best load out would be a black mace/power fist combo Lord on a Bike with Sigil. Crushes through anything from MCs to hordes and spawn backing him up just makes it all the better. Seriously, I've had this guy take out a hive tyrant in one round of combat, and 12 gaunts the next. The trick to gettin ghte +1 attack for 2 ccw on the black mace is: trade your Bike's twin-linked boltgun for the black mace. That way he's running with 5+d6 fleshbane attacks that cause melting, or 4 s8 AP2 attacks.

And again be'lakor is just a boss so why wouldn't you?

OK

If you're not taking the black mace you're missing out. I disagree with taking the black mace with any other weapon. Even if you're facing 2+ armor in a worst case scenario (even though you are mobile enough to avoid them) you should have enough attacks to get at least one unsaved wound through. That's all you need and the curse will take care of the rest and get you more wounds then a powerfist ever could

I try to avoid 2+ with the black mace like the plague. Even with a solid 9 attacks you have less than 50% chance to put a single wound on TEQ. Given that, and the curse requiring a T test (5+ for T4 mind you) I won't be relying on this method. Powerfist is still likely a waste since your not using your 45 point club of death. Just try to avoid 2+, your HQ doesn't have to be able to handle everything himself.
