You still get invulnerable save but otherwise that is correct?

That's correct. If a weapon is double the strength value of the toughness of a model, it just straight kills them unless they have Eternal Warrior.

There are ways around having your cool HQ guys sniped off. First, they should always be attached to a squad of guys. Always. Second, Look Out Sir rolls make it kill the dude next to him on a 2+, which typically is a better outcome.

The third game I ever played, I had just bought Belial and painted him up. He died in OVERWATCH charging one of the named HQs in the Dark Eldar codex, a guy with an Inferno Pistol. It was definitely frustrating but I learned an important lesson about making sure my HQs aren't at risk of getting killed instantly by super powerful weapons.

A person in terminator armor gets a 5+ invuln against lascannon fire.

A Space Marine Captain could claim a 4+ invulnerable save from his Iron Halo.

But if the wound gets through? Yes, it kills him instantly. Which is why you use the Look Out Sir rule to make sure that one of his subordinates is the one making (or being denied a) save in the first place. (Unless he has Eternal Warrior from the Shield Eternal or the Gorgon Chain.)

If you insist on using a TDA Captain/Chapter Master get used to hiding him in a squad or risk losing him to instant death from S8+. Even then the 2+ LoS will fail eventually or you may get hit from an unexpected angle and not have bodies in front.

You're playing C:SM though. Just use a bike and ignore S9 and lower with 2+/3++ Eternal Warrior so you can unlock troop bikes w/grav guns.

Vanished Completely

SRSFace,
I know that feeling... I shelved my idea of a close combat Chaos Lord because he kept getting snipped before he could get into assault range. Even though he was a beast when it came to combat, every single bonus to the Attack characteristic that could be granted was and he had increased initiative to ensure those many AP3 attacks went first, it didn't help. The final straw was an 'easy' kill, one that that just happened to wipe him out with a Strength 8 weapon during over-watch! At that point he was 1/5, so I decided it was a waste of points if he was never going to see combat in less then 20% of cases. It was clearly better to go with a excess-sorceress, and watch everyone convulse in a way that shatters their bones all from a distance.

I'm known as Jinx for a reason. Oh, at least in that 1 combat he did slaughter a character out of an Imperial Guard squad and got turned into a daemon price so there is that. Now if he didn't just die the very next player turn when those guardsmen dakka'ed him to death. The last shot... a pistol, a bloody las-pistol took out a freshly minted daemon prince. I should or realize the folly of having a very heavy hitting HQ unit at that point, cause even if they do get better it just makes them even larger targets, but the following games where he didn't even get into combat clinched it.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

I'm going to assume that it was actually a Blast Pistol (S 8, AP 2 lance) rather than an Inferno Pistol, as none of the named DE HQ's get an inferno pistol. Probably Sliscus, the evil little git ;O)

To be fair, almost all DE Hq's get doubled out on S 6+ guns. At least with marines you have to WORK at it and use antitank weapons

I've lost mine to overwatching assault cannons/.autocannons/meltaguns/plasmaguns etc more times than i can count.

He can join a normal terminator squad; or even a tac squad. there is no need to get the command squad(unless you are building a competitive command squad which still shouldn't have the captain in it unless they are all bikers)

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.
