Hey all, I'm just getting back into the game after not playing for quite some time. Last game I played was at the beginning of 4th edition, most of my experience with the game was in 3rd.
Anyway, I was hoping to get some C+C going on this 1850 pts list I plan on bringing to a local tournament.
-----
1850 Pts - Orks Army
1 Warboss ( HQ) @ 155 Pts
Cybork Body; Attack Squig; Power Klaw; Shoota / Skorcha; Twin-linked
Dakkaguns; Stikkbombz; Warlord; Warbike
1 Warboss ( HQ) @ 155 Pts
Cybork Body; Attack Squig; Power Klaw; Shoota / Skorcha; Twin-linked
Dakkaguns; Stikkbombz; Warbike
30 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 185 Pts
Big Shoota (x1) ( I had an extra 5 points ); Shoota (x29)
30 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 180 Pts
Shoota (x30)
30 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 180 Pts
Shoota (x30)
30 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 180 Pts
Shoota (x30)
10 Gretchin (Troops) @ 40 Pts
Grot Blasta
1 Runtherd @ [10] Pts
Grabba Stick; Slugga
15 Lootas (Elites) @ 225 Pts
Deffguns (x15)
15 Lootas (Elites) @ 225 Pts
Deffguns (x15)
15 Lootas (Elites) @ 225 Pts
Deffguns (x15)
1 Aegis Defence Line @ 100 Pts
Quad-gun
Models in Army: 179
Total Army Cost: 1850
-----
The plan is pretty simple, as any proppa Ork plan should be.
The Bike Bosses hide in the Shoota mobs to avoid being shot to death turn 1, and wait for the right moment to detach from the mob and punch AV 14 and/or high-toughness creatures.
Shoota boyz move up, dakka things, and stand on objectives, assaulting if they're likely to win combat.
Lootas cower take cover behind the Aegis line, blasting anything the Shoota Boyz/Bosses can't handle
Grots are there to man the Quad gun and maybe stand on a homefield objective if the opportunity presents itself.
What do you think? Will this work? What, if anything, should I change?

One thing to consider is that fearless (ie, 11+ model units) of Lootas can't g2g behind an aegis for maximum protection.
Otherwise this is as solid a list as Orks can get in this edition

Yeah I've been painstakingly running the numbers on a bunch of possible builds and I think you're right, this type of list seems to be one of our only real hopes at winning with a pure Ork list. I also liked my chances with the trukk with ram/boarding plank and battlewagon with deffrolla spam list, but something about trukks feels like handing my opponent kill points, and I like that this horde list completely negates AT weapons.
I have been keeping an eye on the roster for the tournament, and it turns out there will be two Tau players (out of 16 entries), both of whom I know to be skilled players. In light of this, I've decided to drop the Aegis Line and the Grots, and am left with a number of pretty compelling options. I can either upgrade the Shoota mobs to have Nobs with Big Choppas and Boss Poles, as well as 3 Big Shootas each, OR I can upgrade the Shootas with just Bosspole Nobs (no big choppas) and take a unit of 3 Kannons with 11 total grot krew and 3 ammo runts.
Which of these options do you think would be the best investment? Perhaps something else entirely that hasn't occurred to me?

I've never been a HUGE fan of Footslogging Orks, the only thing you really have to threaten AV14 is 2 solo Bosses on Bikes that should/would get focused down. If you cut down on a group of boys, and chopped down the Lootas to squads of 10/11 and gave them a group of Nob Bikers w/Painboy or something I think you'd benefit more so from that.

I have seen all the evil that the galaxy harbours, and I have slain all whose presence defiles the Emperor. I have seen what you will see. I have fought what you must fight, and I have slain what you must slay... so fear not and be proud, for we are the sons of Sanguinius, the protectors of Mankind. If you drop each of the Loota squads down to 10 each and also get rid of the Attack Squigs on the Warbosses, you can take 6 Kannons and a Dakkajet with Flyboss and +1 TL Supa-Shoota. That will give you more str 8 to help out your Power Klaws and the Dakkajet makes up for the lost dakka from the Lootas.

IDK why im the only one that caught this but your gretchin points are wrong. Its 40 points for 10 gretchin and a runtherd so you should have 10 extra points to play with. Also playing a green tide list in a time tournament is going to be hard(and dickish) dont expect to finish any game.
I also would drop a warboss(if not both) for nobs with PK and a KFF Mek to give your squads some kind of "decent" save.

He did say "Runtherd [10]" instead of "Runtherd 10". I would assume that with those brackets it implies the 10 was already calculated into the Grots point cost. I don't think he should drop both warbosses, maybe one to free up the HQ slot for a KFF because a biker boss running around is one of the killyist cheap deathstars orks can buy, similar to a MANz Missile.

The one where you take no Nobz and even more kannons (or Lobbas). They're not worth the points IMO in foot slogging mobs, especially without a klaw (and even with one). I personally prefer the Lobbas - Grot guns are tough but if they take any casualties they flee real fast. Lobbas can simply hide and so either not get shot at, or the enemy will have to move to awkward positions to target them, potentially screwing their ability to move onto objectives, threaten other units etc. If you do take the kannons think about taking more krew or a runthert to help stay over 25% casualties.
With regards to the issues of killing AV14, Orks just don't do that at range. The bikerbosses should be enough, and if they're not, you'd have to reconfigure the entire army or dilute your spam strategy to get a worthwhile amount of fast klaws - not at all worth it.
If you can use forgeworld I cannot recommend a couple of Grot Bomms enough. They are so damn good for Orks.

I am a believer in Big Shootas. Every 10 orks should be packing a Big Shoota.
Love the 30 boyz squads with Shootas. If you can get them within 18in, they can lay down some withering dakka.
Love Lootas. nuff said
Drop the Attack Squig, at 15pts they are dead wieght that can be used to buy three more Big Shootas!
why not swap a Warlord for a Big Mek with a KFF. Moveable cover for your boyz.
Gretchin are truly as wretched as you might expect. They are not your 2nd ed Gretchin that could pump out some dakka with autoguns at 18". The 12" grot blastas are pretty bad, and good for nothing except holding an objective or shooting a quad gun as you plan.
If it is within your means, I highly recommend killer kans with Grotzookas, cheap and very effective. Also they can screen your boyz as you advance.

+1 for bringing the Big Green Machine whose special power is that the opponent will get bored waiting for you to move 180 models each turn. I like that there is no good targets in the list (assuming you hide the HQ's in da boyz). You can pretty easily take wounds anywhere equally. This should help you get more consistent results than a list of toyz will give you. Without the PK's you will have a hard time against armor though.

As others have said, it's a pretty good list overall. My only 2 cents would be that if Stronghold Assault is allowed (to some extent that is), I would swap out the ADL for an Imperial Bunker. For 120pts, you can get the bunker, emplaced Quad-gun, and Ammo Store (reroll 1's to hit) which allows for 8 (9 counting the quadgun) Lootas shoot from inside of it. For 130pts you can have the same thing but with a void shield instead of an ammo store for better protection. This would be just the 1 embarked unit but would provide a little bit better protection. There are battlements on top but with the quad-gun, you can only get about 8-10 guys on there. I'd love to hear how you do in the tournament!

There's only one IG player in the tournament, and I know he tends to take primarily veterans in chimeras and griffon mortars, not a whole lot of AV14 to deal with. I'm the only Ork player, so no Battlewagons to worry about, either. I think the two Bosses will be more than enough to handle the one or two AV14 vehicles I'll be dealing with max per game.
I have a feeling the Str8 AP3 shots of the Kannons will prove more useful than the Lobbas against the plethora of MEQs I'm sure to face, not to mention the Riptides, Wraithknights, and Nid MCs. So far the roster for the tournament includes 7 Space Marine players (2 Chaos, the rest are various Imperial Marines), 2 Tau, 1 Eldar, 1 Imperial Guard, 1 Necron, 2 Tyranid, 1 Adepta Sororitas, and then myself with Orks.
Unless the Necron player is bringing multiple Monoliths (highly unlikely), or one of the Marine players decided to try out a Land Raider spam list ( lol), then I shouldn't have to worry TOO too much about AV14.
IDK why im the only one that caught this but your gretchin points are wrong. Its 40 points for 10 gretchin and a runtherd so you should have 10 extra points to play with. Also playing a green tide list in a time tournament is going to be hard(and dickish) dont expect to finish any game.

That's factored into their 40 point cost, that's why it's in brackets. Sorry for not making that more clear.
I like where you're going with trimming some Lootas to get more Kannons, but I really don't want to drop the Attack Squigs from the bosses. I need them to kill whatever it is they're punching, and that extra attack has made all the difference more times than I'd like to think about.
I'd rather not include any vehicles, even flyers, in an effort to neutralize the AT and Skyfire weapons the other players will surely be spamming in their lists. I want drop-podding melta vets to have no choice but to kill 3 point grots off the kannons. Typically I play a KoS-styled list for casual play, so I'm hoping to get the element of surprise when I plop down a ~200 model army when my regular opponents are used to seeing less than half that many models.
Anyway, here's an updated list using the advice I've gleaned from this thread so far.

Dont go mega armour (Warboss), then you cant run. Keep him on a bike and keep him in the back of the field ad when you get close to assault you sling shoot him up to the unit that plans on charging.
Green spam lists dont work, its more an annoying list to run seeing how you eat up to much time and you will never finish an actual game.
If you want a semi green spam list that does work, you need to Mech the army. 3 BW, BS, Rolla & at least 3-4 Trukks full of boys. For your anti air Some lootas behind a ADL Quad cannon.you will have ~100 boys and 30-45 Lootas = ~150 Models but with a quicker playstyle

I was thinking of a 1850 list as well,
Warboss on bike with 6 nobz one a pain boy. 3 PKs for the group
Big Mek, with KFF or SAG (I know! but it's fun to use at times)
90 boys, shootas
Dakkajet
9 big gun kannons. (I made 8 of them from home made parts) the grot crews I bought from a 17 pack fantasy snotling package.
ADL for the kannons
Now, you can throw in a second dakkajet or blitza bommer or a big Mek deff dred. They suck but sometimes they make your opponent focus on it than the Boyz.

I have heard this from a few people, but my experience has been that green tide is more akin to an auto-win button for anyone who can be bothered with it. However I've never run it against top tier stuff simply because its just not fun for me. What armies/builds/etc are smashing the hordes up exactly?
The list
Solid footslog list. I don't like foot slog lists but if your gonna go no- FW no- SH footslog this is the way to do it. A KFF would be amazing here, if it weren't for the opportunity cost of losing bikerboss #2, so definitely consider it though it isn't a no-brainer. Kannons do > Lobbas in this case, I don't know why I suggested the latter.
