Command and conquer could be fun, especially if they could harness any of the base-building elements for the tabletop.

Mass effect and fallout would make cracking quest-style small-scale squad based rpg's.

I keep wondering why they don't make Fallout RP books (like DnD)

X-com practically IS a table-top game anyway, being a strategy RPG, just in video game form. A Halo version of 40k is much more interesting considering the FPS nature of the video games.

I gotta say Starcraft...which reminds me, why isn't there any model company producing good kits for Starcraft??? Oh old art style only please, not the bloated baloon-iacs from SC2. Balloon army to trick Nazis, I'm fine with. Not in my should-look-awesome-and-hardedged game franchise.

If I HAD to stick with one on the list I'd say Halo for sure. But I voted Other

Personally, of the games listed, I'd prefer mass effect.

The reason is diversity. Almost all the other titles listed have only 2 or perhaps 3 major factions. Whilst this would be good from a balance perspective, I do like a more expansive background.

Mass effect gives just this, with its many different species and factions it has the potential to supply possibly up to a dozen factions.

Also, it has the advantage of adjustable scope. The setting could be represented by squad based combat (like the game), pitched battles (think epic 40k with reapers) and up to fleet engagements (like BFG).

Fallout might be good fun also, but I imagine it like a necromunda style of game, where you control your own gang, rather than an established faction.

1st. Assassin's Creed is not very Sci-fi. One Sci-fi machine does not a sci-fi franchise make.

2nd. Dawn of War would make an amazing Tabletop game! Oh wait...

What about Starship Troopers? Hienlein left the universe pertty open and described a couple races beyond the Arachnids and noted that there were more out there. Would be a designers wet dream I'd think

Already is (or was) a Starship Troopers 28mm game.

I don't know if anyone still plays it though.

Command and Conquer obviously has all the units and vehicles that you would expect to see in a TT wargame. Halo has a wide variety of units as well, but not as many. Mass Effect is the more diverse than either one, but none of the factions are shown to have a wide variety of vehicles or units in the games. You'd have to make a lot of new vehicles/units to fill it out. Reapers would be AMAZING as a TT army. A true scale Destroyer would stand about 750 MM/30 Inches. That would be one hell of an amazing model.

First qualifier would be, skirmish-based game (like Infinity) or army based game (like Warhammer 40K)?
For an army based game, I would vote Mass Effect.
For a skirmish based game, I would vote X-COM.

However, I do have one idea that I really like. While it isn't a video game IP, it has been used for video games: Dune. Imagine playing a commando squad for one of the great houses (or Fremen) raiding another great house.

Mass effect for me.
While in the games you mostly fight only in small conflicts that doesn't me there aren't larger ones both in the back story and parts of the game.
As someone mentioned above, there is a huge number of factions which all differ widely in both style and look:
-Humans
-Turians
-Salerians
-Asarii
-Krogan
-Geth
-Quarian
-Rachnii
-Reapers
-etc.
and then there are alliances and merc groups which bring several races together.

Historical battle wise you have:
-Rachnii wars (Rachni v everyone)
-krogan wars (krogan v everyone)
-geth rebelion (geth v quarian)
-First contact war (human v turian)
-reaper war (reapers v everone)
and war games can cover the rest.

There is a wide range of weapons from assault rifles to snipers to shotguns and rocket-launchers.

Vehicle wise there is a bit less range. Geth have their big walkers and there is the mako apc, beyond that not much.

I think this would suit a small scale battle game with rule focused enough to cover the different types of armor, hacking powers and the telekinesis.

Command and Conquer would be pretty cool, though I think it would be better as a 10mm game. Then you can really start fielding armies of mammoth tanks

I'd have to say Mass Effect.
It would suit either skirmish or larger scale games. I have no doubt that there are hundreds of sketches and concept art for vehicles and things for the various races too fill out the model count, not to mention that the universe and history has so much room for expansion and scope to fatten the miniatures and supplements out.

i would think Gears of War/MassEffect would be the two that would best make a table top game. Treat it as like Necromunda or KillTeam, able to customize a small team w/set gear list, can run stock or detailed customization.

Halo i feel would be like playing is Imperial Guard with a Space Marine Force Commander as MasterChief.

C&C i see could be interesting if they add some kind of tech/weapon progress achievable mid /late turns of the game to give it that RTS feel. With out something like that it would feel the same as any other army table top.

XCoM i would agree with on the same basis as i noted with GoW + ME.

While it would be very interesting to see the diversity of WoW brought to a tabletop game, its not sci-fi enough to count for a vote.

Mass Effect could be cool as well but suffers from the fact it wouldn't be too different from Infinity except a wider variety in aliens (though I'd play Turians if this was made because they're awesome.)

XCOM I like as it is with its nicely animated, turn-based tactical shooting and base-building/management.

Warframe would be pretty cool, though some of those levels are pretty massive to portay on your typical 4x6 table.

So my votes going to go for one I've not seen yet. Mobile Suit Gundam.

The Half-Life series would be fantastic as a miniature game.

And I know the title says "major sci-fi" but I think a small game called Jamestown would be quite fun as a tabletop.

I think a Fallout game in the style of Mordheim would be awesome.

Get a gang, find loot, battle other gangs for bottlecaps. Random events happening, mutant gangs, hacking building security to your aid, etc.

A game set in the future Terminator universe would be awesome. Human resistance vs the robots oh yeah...

Also this is an older game but a table top version of area 51 could be pretty cool too.

I also think that a pseudo board game version of Mario cart could be amusing. (think modified gorkamorka)

I think one of the problems here is that most of the franchises are like 1 man vs a horde of people(Halo), or some involve complex movement(Assassins Creed). I think it would be cool to play a game all about cover saves, but it may end up being a stalemate creeping around cover. Unfortunately, most games are all about murdering hordes of enemies. I think that Titanfall might have some unique gameplay as a wargame.

Edit: Actually, I think that Planetside 2 would be cool as a 28mm tabletop game. Also, Hawken might be cool, since the mechs are fairly balanced.

PS2 wouldn't be bad at all. Tanks, aircraft, loads of infantry. Could almost do 15mm so things like galaxies and multiple liberators made more sense. Common pool vehicles would be great sellers and the three factions probably wouldn't be terriblyhard to bbalance.
