I'd personally love to see a wargame in the Mass Effect setting. Something like battlefleet gothic with each race as a different faction.

My vote goes to Mass Effect. You certainly have enough races to see a lot of variety in army builds and each race has access to atleast 4 clases usually and that isn't even touching the different powers and weapons available to each class and race.

I think that a Mass Effect game would work best on a skirmish level *akin to Warmachine* with normal games running about 5-15 models

Halo and Fallout would both be interesting.

As would X-com. I mean its practically a table top game already.

Ubisoft's Creed is all about one mass-killer bulldozing his way through meat-shields in order to get to an objective. It's be like the War of the Ring game with less units.

System Shock would be better as an RPG with maybe miniatures on the side. Bioshock would be the 'intro' or 'lite' version of the game.

Fallout would be a fun miniatures game, but there's a lot of post-apocalyptic miniatures out there already like Eden and Brother "I sculpt naked Ukranians" Vinni. I'd be afraid of them eventually following in GW's footsteps and releasing a lot of DLC, though.

Command and Conquer would be amazing. Red Alert has light humor, and Tiberian X has a great setting. The only drawback is that it'd be only two sides normally. Perhaps Flames of War. Like Fallout, the GW-caliber DLC would be unbearable.

Gears of War already has a board game. It's supposedly rather good. It's much better as a Space-Hulk-like corridor game than a wargame.

Halo already has a RTS, and the collective yawning from gamers could be heard across an ocean. Miniatures games are platform-agnostic so there's no Stockholm Syndrome that'll convince people to play/buy a Halo wargame.

Mass Effect would have a cool aesthetic, but like Gears of War, it'd be better as a Space-Hulk-like corridor game; exploring a Reaper Derelict perhaps? The DLC would be its downfall.

Metal Gear has always thrived as a cinematic game with war in the background rather than a war game itself. Much better as an RPG, and it'd be the perfect fit for an RPG.

---

Of the choices, I'd choose Command and Conquer. I think someone may even be able to find the franchise's corpse somewhere in the dumpster.

Gears of War, a skrimash team vs team focused game with the potential for larger battles. Three large factions: Humans, Locust, Lambent. The game would be very fast paced and focus on tactical game play with small fire teams of troops.

Infinity is already basically what the people who suggest an X-COM or Mass Effect game would be looking for if you ask me. Heck, it even has the whole "reaction fire" dynamic down and one of the factions is pretty much the aliens from X-COM crossed with the Covenant from Halo. I would not be surprised at all to learn that the developers played a lot of that game before they made Infinity.

I think Assassin's Creed would make an interesting one, a game focusing on stealth and cunning is not something I think is on the market at all. It would almost work as a single-player narrative-based game, with AI for guards and civilians based on cards or dice tables. I think it would have to be narrative-based, though, and I'm not sure it would work as a multiplayer affair trying to balance 1 guy against a dozen (if we go by the game itself). It would still make a very cool boxed game though, and the opportunity for truly 3d gaming over a board that would have to be full of terrain would be cool.
You know, when I read that option in the list I scratched my head and moved on. You have successfully sold me on that idea. I honestly can not think of a stealth based tabletop game (admittedly I do not know all that many).

They tried to. The licensing fell through. There were a couple fan made projects but nothing complete that I am aware of. Here's what came out of it. If you know what it was supposed to be originally then it is pretty obviously "not Fallout the RPG".

Starcraft and Command & Conquer are both very fond RTS for me and were some of the first games I played of the genre back when I was a freshman in high school, so yeah if they made models for them I would buy them up in a heartbeat. And of course, as others before me have already said, they are perfectly set up for wartable gamming. They have pre-existing units. The game makers worked to create balanced, visually distinct armies with a diversity of units and thus fits well into the requirements for a good wargame.

HOwEVER! I actually voted for Fallout. Despite Starcraft and C&C's strong background in RTS and a myriad of units, Fallout has something special, character. When I first began to play Warhammer, I enjoyed the idea of actually being the general in Fantasy, however, other than declaring a challenge, it doesn't really come into play (I could try to talk like my general would, but that would get annoying quick).

Fallout however, does have a strong sense of characters from diverse armies. You could play NCR, Brotherhood of Steel, The Enclave, Caesar's Legion and you could have special characters from those armies too like Legate Lanius or Scribe Rothchild

Dune has a rich setting with which to start a tabletop wargame. Although the video game is older than those on the list and is based on a book, I still think it has immense potential. The Prana/Bindu ideas and water scarcity background gives opportunities for unique mechanics.

For those who have not read the series, I would highly recommend it.

I find it funny that people are saying Starcraft.
We already have that, it's called Warhammer 40,000.

Blizzard blatantly copied wh40k to make a video game, then making a tabletop game with the same copied stuff would be bad taste and probably pretty repetitive.

Its basically a movement square turn based strategy game which satisfies everyone's "what if X and Y fought each other?" dreams.

Could Aragorn beat Wolverine in a duel?

What if Master Chief and Superman had a fight?
