I'm not exactly sure what they are called, but the Heavy Weapons Platforms used by Eldar...

They count as Heavy Support, right? They are a unit belonging only to themselves.

Is it true that they are treated as two models? Can one of them disembark from the platform?

A friend of mine says that it can, he used it to man an emplaced weapon during a game.

I thought that was impossible, so I just had to come on here and ask.

One member of the crew can fire the weapon on the platform and the other can fire their own weapon (i.e. shuriken catapult) or an emplaced weapon (quad gun for example).

If the weapon platform unit is deployed next to the emplaced weapon then it is legal for them to fire it and the support weapons. They must be fired at the same target though (unless he gets a character with the split fire warlord trait and has them fire the emplaced weapon).

Which are we talking about? Heavy Weapon platforms in a Guardian unit or Support Weapon Platforms the unit?

If it's Support Weapons, as it sounds like it is, they are a unit of Artillery. Two crew for each gun, however one is modeled on the gun itself. Strictly speaking he should be on a separate base, as the rules don't cover how to handle two distinct models on the same base.

Yeah, the Eldar Support weapons are a wonderful example of the guys making the models not considering the rules of the game.

They look cool, but cause issues with the artillery rules, since the guy modelled on the gun is technically a separate model and should be free to move away from it.

To be fair, the platforms came out before the current artillery rules, though I don't really remember how they worked previously.

I know!

I modelled the two guys on the gun...because it looks bad@ss...and then I run each one with another two guys on small bases...per gun...please let me know if I'm wrong on that...thanks?

The artillery rules have always treated the crew as separate models.

Personally I'd treat the crew that are mounted on the gun model as decorative, and have seperate crew models.
The rules work so much easier then.

That's how the rules do work.

I always think of the two guys on there as being the two "wounds" of the gun.

only it is perfectly capable of taking out those crew members before the gun....although, in this instance does this make that artillery piece crappy as it would go down to T3 since that would be the majority?

Doesn't matter, artillarly is always treated as the toughness of the gun against all shooting.
