So I was playing against this cheesy list with two thunderfire cannons and a skyfire cannon. Needless to say, I was unprepared and he wiped out a solid part of my force.

But I had a blob of 10 warriors, with an overlord attached to the unit.

They all died, he wiped out every single one, but my overlord stayed alive. I rolled for reanimation protocols and he objected. He asked why. I proceeded to look at the rules.

Reanimation Protocols state that you can roll for resurrection if at least one model of the unit stays alive. Didn't say specifically the warriors, just a model in the unit. And overlord, being an IC, can join any part of the unit, and if he does, he counts as part of the unit for all rules purposes.

So make the calls guys, was I correct in rolling for reanimation protocols?

No.

Reanimation Protocols, page 29 "Note that characters do not count as part of the unit for the purposes of Reanimation Protocols"

If all you've got left is a Character, which a Lord is, then the unit is dead and doesn't come back.

As soon as all non characters in a unit die, thats it no more RP rolls.

You were incorrect. All of the fallen models must be the same type.

Build a man a fire, he will be warm for a night. Set a man on fire, and he will be warm for the rest of his life.

Yep, you missed the part of RP that indicates the living model in the unit must be of the same type as the fallen ones in order to allow a roll for them. In this case your friend is right, you've played it incorrectly.
