Has anyone tried Osprey's Ronin skirmish game? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
I've read some reviews and write-ups, and it seems like it could be a great skirmish system for any feudal/medieval/dark age army. It is of course centered around feudal/imperial Japan, but it seems like it could be adapted to run Viking, Saxon, Norman, Roman, 3 Musketeers, or even other similar skirmish sets (it does involve arquebuses, but you could sub in a crossbow for that I suppose on older armies or just ban those bits of equipment all together).
Could you do something such as that with the rules easily enough?

I've only had a dabble, but it's definitely a fun system. I love the 'gambling' element of thinking about what to put into attack or defence, and how you can strategise that.
We were actually having this discussion here a while ago! I've bought a bunch of Perry Miniature's WoTR range with a view to trying it out but have yet to put them together. Here is the thread with some discussion on it, please let me know what you think (and we could continue discussion there, or I could bring some stuff from there over here?)

I've just purchased a box of Wargames Factory Samurai warriors to use in Ronin, I've got the rule book on order at my Flgs.
Do you get much freedom in the rules as to what you can equip the models with I see with the models for ronin they're fixed models, I've made a Leader model with a katana is that aloud in the rules?
Cheers

Yes they're very flexible. You normally have a standard load out for a unit, but for a lot of them you can add points to arm them with different weapons. There are a fair amount of different weapons with different rule effects.
There are historically-based restrictions in terms of what can be armed with what, but it's quite open. There is even a calculator on the Osprey site which gives you points for each weapon if you want to go beyond what is in the book
