i typically use them when im playing farsight because i can crisis suits as troops. Im an oddball since ive always really liked them and i somehow ended up with 12 of them. Running 6 is never a bad choice but keep them light on gear, they are there to shoot up your enemies and get obliterated. 4 Burst Cannons and 2 Fusions give you some flexibility, just place them in cover and the 2+ cover save should do the rest, maybe give split fire to the fusions if you want to be surgical. If you really want to get a nasty bomb another evil tactic is to give them all gun drones and at least 1 drove controller, and if you take 6 burst cannons thats 48 BS 3 shots 24 of them twinlinked. with marker support it can be brutal. But keep in mind it WILL DIE. These things are bullet magnets and a bit expensive, but I always enjoy them as an alpha strike distraction, with a little flair and fun thrown in. Also remember 3 of them won't really do much and they will die real easy, unless you're going to have them tank hunt, which is not a good use of their abilities. I think they have really fallen out of style these days because they are competing with the magical Riptide and the more flexible Crisis suit. With the Farsight book this clears up this spot and since im a stickler for only using one Riptide so it allows me some great flexibility.

In a stealth team, only the sergeant can take drones.
So no you cant get 24 twin linked shots.... you can get 4.

The best way to use stealth teams is to glue a bunch of the models into the shape of Riptide and use them as one.

They're not the best competitive choice according to the internet, i enjoyed using them as my beacon by hiding them somewhere I think they can be useful at, worked for a few games before I started doing other things.

The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)

A minimal team infiltrating to supply beacons for reserves is an amazing use. A medium to large squad infiltrating WILL cause first turn murder to hoards. I've found them pretty lackluster as fusion platforms. They make a great tease & distract unit, being that they are bullet magnets.
The internet hates them, but the internet doesn't play the game, it just screams "MOAR RIPTIDES" from it's mothers basement.

When the tau codex was coming out I was hoping with all my hopes that stealth suits could be equipped with any weapon and their main draw back would have been only having 1 hard point compared to the crisis suit who had three. Unfortunately that didn't happen, but they did get a nice little buff of an extra shot. Anyway, tau has tons of s5 ap5 weaponry. Burst cannons, pulse rifles, pulse carbines, gun drones, and smart missile systems. And this come on nearly every unit but vespide and kroot. So you have to way the benefits of the s5 ap5 weapon.
Stealth suits are 7.5 points per shot
pros: stealth and shroud, infiltrate, JSJ, sv3+
cons: 18'', t3, w1, elite slot
crisis suits with 2 burst cannons are 5.25 points per shot
pros: t4, w2, deep strike, JSJ, sv3+, can take gun drones, scoring in enclave
cons: 18", elite slot
So crisis suits are cheaper per shot and harder to wound but they don't have stealth, shroud and infiltrate. Which one would you rather have?
piranhas are 5 points per shot
Pros: fast skimmer, two detachable gun drones, fast attack slot
Cons: open top, low armor
piranhas may be able to do the same thing you want the stealth suits to do while keeping your elite slot free for riptides and crisis suits. What is harder to kill t3 2+ or av11 2hp?
less than or equal to s4 can't hurt the front of a piranha.
s5-6 kills steal suits easier
s7 starts to kill piranhas easier
so the piranha can probably outlive the steal suit, especially when you detach drones. Drones can harass another unit or block charges. Only downside to piranhas is they give away a point in the scouring.

Well heck, that was a misreading on my part, i guess thats why ive never seen that build! Oh well, they can still be competitive just not a huge avalanche of str 5 shots like i had hoped. Hopefully my friends will forgive me for cheesing them

They would be competitive if the base Shas' ui could take plasma rifles. Or if they were in a less competitive slot.
I do love the old school Easter Island stealth suits. Might be my favorite model for Tau.

That was the previous codex stealth bomb. It's lose was a blow to stealth teams.
