Trying a bit of a cup and balls type tricknology list. Make people have to medal with the three vindicators till the flyers get in. Then have to deal with the heldrakes to keep their troops alive, then finally death mark unit killing HQs and tough scoring units. Leaving me untouched troops late game for victory..?

Anyway, the list:

Typhus

20 zombies
20 zombies

Heldrake
Heldrake

Vindicator
Vindicator
Vindicator

Necron Overlord (MSS, Gauntlet of Flame)
Despairtek

5 x Deathmarks (Night Scythe)

5 x Warriors (Night Scythe)
5 x Warriors (Night Scythe)

Aegis (Comms relay)

Thoughts greatly appreciated.

Is it because my army lists are really boring that no one ever has anything much to say?

Would this just die in droves to Tau/Eldar or do you think it could work?

First a disclaimer , I don't have much experience running a necron/CSM list above 1000pts (working towards that).

Why Typhus over a standard chaos lord? I prefer the standard lord with MON. You also have a lot relying on flyers getting in, some bad rolls could see it go horribly wrong.

I like wraiths in my necron army as they cause a headache for any opponent and are great value for their points. Last time I ran wraiths and spawn. The spawn died horribly but allowed the wraiths to get into combat with barely a scratch.

Plague marines are also a favourite as they can be really hard to move off an objective. I can't offer an opinion on zombies as I haven't used them, would they be similar to a cultist blob hiding at the back to hold an objective?

Sorry, also I have found death marks underwhelming when I use the (could be I use them wrong) I like immortals for 10 points less.

Well zombies are like cultists, except they are Fearless and have Feel No Pain, making them much more survive able in large blobs. One good bit into cultists and they run/die. Also, Zombies are just as cheap BUT the tax you pay is you have to have Typhus. Hence Typhus.

Deathmarks are good when run with a Despairtek. His abyssal staff becomes an ap1, wounding on 2+ flamer against the marked unit. And the overlord has a flamer too so that is a lot of 2+ wounds when placed just so coming out of a night scythe. A really good slay the warlord unit is kind of what I'm hoping there.

The fliers all come in turn two on a 2+ with the Comms relay.

That is the spine of this army which I mostly like. The question is what to do next to augment and compliment. What I want is something that can lay down a tonne of hurt and requires a real effort for my opponent to kill.

I did think about spawn and wraiths, but I can only take one unit of each. I only have one fast attack slot in CSM because of the two Heldrakes (and I need the redundancy because these are my troop killers) and one in Necrons (allies).

Ultimately I don't see myself killing much with these until turn two at the very earliest and I want to create a threat quickly. I like pie plates and the other thought was a Doomsday Ark, but I can only take one and that makes stuff simple for my opponent. But I am very open to other suggestions - I really worry about the short range of the Vindicators and whether they will be able to actually make it into shooting range.

It's a re-roll, not a +1. Still probably going to get your stuff in on Turn 2, but it's not as good as a 2+. Unless I missed a change somewhere?

Something else to consider is running Scarabs as the allied FA, the Spyders as HS.

I believe (I'm no mathhammer expert) that rerollable 3+ is statistically a tiny bit better than 2+...? Maybe someone better at statistics can help me here.

Yes. Considered a spider farm. Can get 10 scarabs and 3 spiders for less than the cost of the vindicators. I would probably also take another four zombies with the left over points. I'd rather something that might take out some stuff turn one ideally... The three pie plates is all I mean.... 120 points is pretty cheap for disposable dakka... Could do Havoks instead, but I thought the vindicators might cause more early game mayhem. Main thing is to give the opponent something else they have to shoot instead of zombies in round one...

Not my dice. Just had my Triarch Stalker not hit anything till T3 and that still needed the re-roll to hit.

Just start the Zombies in Reserve if you don't want them shot at. Otherwise, switch to 2 units of Noise Marines for even more damage on T1.
