This is my first batch of marines from my first tac squad... I'm not quite finished with them yet, but I was wondering what people thought of them.... also I want to add another color for the right shoulder pads and the back packs.... any ideas?

They look pretty nifty. You could try dry brushing some lighter colors in on the armor to make it stand out more. Using a black wash in the crevices will help bring out some of the details as well.

yeah definitly need some different shades on the armour. also the silver sections could do with being a bit more uniform, it looks like you have paid attention to people saying to thin your paints, but have only done one layer so the colour is inconsistent

Your silver metallics need a lot of work. One problem I can tell you're having (from the look of the paint) is that your black primer dried really rough. Am I right? If so, then you can counter that by adding a little water to your paint. That will let it flow easily onto the surface of the model, and that ease of flow will counteract the grainy look you have now. After that, wash the silver metallics liberally with Nuln Oil, and you'll have nice burnished looking metal with plenty of detail.

If you want a good accent color for the right shoulder, I would suggest a deep green. It'll go well with what you're using already.

This, also what brand of silver paint are you using? It looks a little skimpy in the pigment. I would try:
1. Carefully drybrusing the base silver over the black
2. Maybe a thin wash of black to bring out the detail.
3. Highlighting the edges and high points so they're a little brighter.

Then you can touch up the black and maybe highlight it for a varied tone. (I know highlighting black is a pain, but it leads to a very eye-catching result.) I might go with a gold, white, or red for the pad and backpack. Black goes well with everything, so it's really up to you.

I notice my posts seem to bring threads to a screeching halt. Considering the content of most threads on dakka, you're welcome.

Thanks guys, I'm definitely gonna do more layers with the silver... should have mentioned I was still working on it and I really like the idea of a dark green for the shoulder. I'll post more pics when the whole squad is done.
