Pretty sure there is a good way to use a sky shield pad to put some long range pain (doomsday arks) on. Thinking that it's probably about using scarabs and zombies to protect it. I'm looking for advice from anyone who has done something similar. Any help?

Putting enough stuff on top to not leave room for a drop pod and surrounding with zombies?

Could this work well?

Put two doom arks on top and a spyder with fabricator inbetween to repair. Just make sure the spyders base is in contact with both arks. So the arks will have a 4++ and can be repaired.

I'd put wraiths in front as speed bumps.

But how to avoid deep striking melta creeps?

What happened to the Pylon plan? It's definitely too big for a bastion, now that I've seen the model.

You could line the edges of the Skyshield with zombies, for certain.

Defo not ruling out pylons at all. 130pts for two shot str 9 ap2 cannon with skyfire and interceptor vs 175 pts for str 9 ap1 large blast plus 2 gauss flayer arrays that can shoot at other targets. 390 pts for 6 shots vs 350 pts for two independent large blasts?

4++ probably benefits the arks more.

Well if you're shielded...then you get the 4+ and they still scatter for deep strike...

Pay the 5 extra points for "ready for takeoff" if you have some fliers

I think I want to fill the pad with scarabs around my artillery and then the ground around it with zombies. So nothing can get at it and I can shoot with impunity. As long as I have firing alleys lined up with as many objectives as possible, I should be able to support a combined zombie push / night scythe warrior drop on turn five...

Just wondering what sneaky tricks I am not protected against...

Coming in through the bottom of it? Really, the Skyshield doesn't have enough rules, because technically you can easily argue that models are allowed to do that. It's too much of a hassle for me.

Kind of thought that as long as there isn't space for him to place his models without being within an inch of me, he can't see the scarabs, in which case he can't get on the pad, or assault the contents, no?

I JUST purchased a Skyshield Landing Pad. i use Night Lords at the moment, and on a lark more than anything because i had some store credit to blow, I got it.

I actually have no ideas for how to use it yet because it cannot be placed farther than midfield. So it effectively gives you very little in the way of free movement and may actually slow you down if the alternate Deep Strike location is reasonably safe and i can bring meltas to bear better. But it DOES ensure the Raptors can land safely, or at least, one unit of them.

The issue is that if you put it that far forward, it could be captured before you can use it. After thinking about that a minute, I realize that I am an assault army and if they try, they are exposed to my assaults. So in some ways that might actually work to my advantage. Let their greed bring them forward into me. So as a lure perhaps?

Board control certainly seems like the thing to like about it. So far forward and so filled initially with deadly Raptors, one can imagine that an enemy might be loathe to grow too close.

Its an interesting question. Not sure i'll really use it, as it isn't free. But I am pretty curious how others use it.

The rules part of it I suppose is up for debate but i think its common sense, honestly.

The rules for that thing are so obscure, in an apocalypse game I participated in our opponent put a Reaver Titan on the landing pad and tried to justify that it got the invulnerable save, so we ruled that it needed to be covered by the shields when they were raised, the whole 25% rule. Just make sure you don't put anything too big on there and I would cover it from the bottom and space the things on top to prevent deepstrikers from making the full circle.

Having never used one myself, it looks like it would be ideal for any army with a Flier based delivery method in mind... Put it as far forward as you dare and start it unfurled, then drop down in waves on it.

Continuing on that thought experiment, you could make your last transport a long-range shooter that does really well when sitting still, combined with a long-range infantry squad to compliment the transport loadout. Put the shield up, and fire with 4++ impunity.

I'm thinking about a Stormraven with all Anti-Armor loadout, delivering a Rifleman Dread and a Centurion Dev, or regular Devestator squad. Kit the squad out with anti-infantry gear all the way.

Then, the Dread, Squad, and SR cover all the bases and make a neat little pillbox with a 4++ save all around. The SR can even choose to go Skyfire for AA while chilling.

On the other hand, that's seriously tasty pie-plate bait...

If you see the enemy closing in, they could even re-embark

There's a good articlke on this somewhere and line of site issues are an issue. But as i play a melee oriented Night Lords list (at the moment) I dont care one FIG about the use of it as a shooting platform. Lol. to me its where the pain will come from in subsequent rounds for the foe. =)

Naturally, I need a little bit of help understanding what arguments or issues might arise though if I use it which is why im interewsted in the thread. Seems ideal for some things...
