So, my friend has been buying up Dark Vengeance models, and he has collected a large number of HQ models, and he has been asking around at the viability of tossing most of them in a squad together. So, with that in mind, what is your advice on this little group?

Techmarine w/ Lightning Claw, Thunderhammer - 85 points
1 servitors - 10 points
Librarian w/ ML2 Psyker, Storm Shield, Force Stave - 100 points
Librarian w/ ML2 Psyker, Storm Shield, Force Stave - 100 points
Chaplain w/ Digital Weapon - 100 pts
Captain w/ Power Weapon, Lightning Claw, Artificer Armor - 140 points

Honestly, to me, it sounded much like the old Swarmstar build with a Prime and guard attached, but I am a bit skeptical about it.

"There is a cancer eating at the Imperium. With each decade it advances deeper, leaving drained, dead worlds in its wake. This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

That's way too many HQs, you're only allowed two

Well two + techmarine/servitors

See FOC on page 109

Without protection from instant death the squad will be killed in short order.

I would imagine that he would be running them with biomancy. I would assume that ID would be fairly trivial if the entire squad is even T6.

Way too unreliable and of little benefit anyway when the weight of fire will still massacre the squad.

The real killer is the fact that a single melee focused Monstrous Creature could probably wipe out the entire squad without breaking a great sweat.

I'm not too familiar with Space Marines, but I'm pretty certain those all have 3+ saves, right?
If they do, anything even remotely shooty will drop them fast. Heck, just about anything will drop them quickly. HQ's are great, but they're generally over-costed for their actual stat-line when compared to other units (at least from my experience). I feel pretty much anything would be able to force enough wounds to make that squad fail some saves, and then it'll only start getting worse once you have to choose between losing support or firepower in the squad.

Techmarine has a 2+, Artificer Armor Captain has a 2+.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

No idea how I missed the Artificer Armor. Read it twice. Even then, if a melee specialized squad gets in, that 2+ will do almost nothing; just funnel a majority of the attacks through models in base to base with the 3+ armor.
A mobile shooting unit would be able to do this reasonably well too. Or possibly just two shooting units flanking the HQ mob.
With the points sunk into HQ's like that, it gives the opponent such flexibility with what can be done against it.
