I have been playing guard for a while, (I'm primarily Orks) but I haven't played with them in the 6th edition. What seems to be the most prominent and successful Guard set ups right now? What works and why? Thank you Dakka

Sort of depends on what level you want to play at and if forgeworld is being used.
The basic concept for the GT level of trying to win is a platoon to stick a SW rune priest in and some grey hunters to capture forward objective. Then 2-3 vendettas and perhaps a manticore and some other artillery. Don't forget the ADL. You will have an ADL...
Forgeworld really opens up the ability of the IG to run a variety of lists. With forgeworld any of the major archtypes are possible. Even power blobbs can be made pretty good.
If you just want pick up games then mechvtes, armoured corps, artillery line, foot gunline, and air cav can all be run with good success. The thing with IG is that they gain a lot with allies and fortifications and any list you design needs to strike the right balance of tools.
BTW you will get a bunch of comments to the effect that you HAVE to take vendettas. This is not strictly true but if you don't play with stronghold assault (quad icarus) or forgeworld (sabre platforms) you will be at a significant disadvantage against anyone spamming heldrakes and/or nightscythes.

5th ed mechanized works well, just add more anti-flyer weapons
Some use blob platoons buffed with allies special characters with fearless, stamina, dakka and cover
In general 6th edition units:
HQ: CCS (no primaris, lord, engineer)
Elite: Psykers, Marbo (but hes random)
Troops: Vets on Chimera of buffed platoon
FA: Vendetta
HS: Manticore
Fortification: Aegis + Quad gun

Ig works great as allies for orkses. I run ccs, vets, marbo and a leman russ exterminator with lc, hb sponsons and Pask. They're what my orkses need - nice ranged support and awesome marbo
ccs usually needs a master of the fleet to get a -1 modifier on enemie's reserves rolls if you have 30 spare points. That's an extremely solid reserve controle if paired with comms relay. Many lists u're gona face have some key elements like flyers or deepstrikers/outflankers. Even a plain -1 without comms relay is nice.

Could a power blob list/ artillery with psykers list work pretty well? I have most of the Characters, which should I use? What kind of things could I do with these options?
I don't have vendettas, what is a good substitute that could fit with the blob/artillery list?

Yep,
For your psyker you want one or more of the following in order of how good they are.
Inquisitor Coteaz (Inquisition Supplement)
Rune Priest (SW)
Inquisitor w/ ML1, book relic, and servo skulls (Inquisition Supplement)
Tigerius (SM/UM)
Mantis Warrior Libby w/ infravisor (SM forgeworld CT)
DA Libby w/ PFG infravisor
All of these have prescience + other buffs in common and can make your artillery much more accurate.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Without vendettas I would recommend a firestorm redoubt or as an absolute minimum an ADL with quad gun.

If I took the Rune Priest what would I want in the power blob? Meltas PWs and Maybe some commissars?
If I take the Rune Priest do I have to take some SWs as well?
And for the artillery, is it pretty much just manticores or do medusas work?

I've tried a blob of 50 guyz with 30 krak nades, 2 vox casters, 3 poweraxe sarges, 3 meltas + Xeno inquisitor with rad nades, psychostroke nades, 3 servo-sculls, ml1, Book to get scoutmove, counterattack and such stuff, power armor + Tigurius. They were accompanied by 50 conscripts with lord comissar with a power fist. And they are a nightmare for any mc spam or close-ranged/mellee guyz to face. 4++ and/or fnp you might get as psy-powers makes them quite resilient to shooting also. Anywayz, a blob needs allies to buff it to make resilient and viable. I'd not rush to buy such a hell lot of models before the new dex drops.

To be entirely honest such a unit needs to be designed around your list and tweaked to suits your tastes and meta. I have seen well placing list with all sorts of setups.
There are two major categories these tend to fall in; 1) advancing or 2) camping
Advancing blobbs will want power axes and melta/flamer/etc. If you plan to advance them you will need a plan to do so like a forward ADL to keep them alive. Advancing IG outside of cover will actually loose you forward distance as the front rank is killed faster than you advance.
Campers usually have some autocannons or lascannons and a few power axes and/or melta/flamers.
I recommend at least a single unit of the blobb takes krak grenades to help with vehicles.
Manticores are great artillery and work very well in a more defensive style list.
Medusas may say artillery but they are actually light tank hunters with their direct fire weapons. As such they need other similar threats and to be run in multiples to get their job done. Again very list dependent.

It kinda depends on if you want to use forge world or not. We could narrow your choices down more if you decide from there.

I am definitely willing to use some forgeworld, but unfortunately I don't want to use any Vendettas even if that does limit my list building abilities.
I have a bunch of Commissars including Yarrik. Psykers, unlimited Cadians/Steel legion infantry, some artillary and a myriad of heavy weapons.
I have a Rune Priest as well, which it looks like I'll be using.
I have other things as well but these seemed the most relevant.
Could this make a viable set? What forgeworld items are essential to aid something like this?

Sabre platforms from forgeworld can handle all AA needs.
Heavy artillery carriages are a nice addition but not necessary.

Always wonder, what if your opponent says, "no forgeworld, just standard 40k" ? from a rules standpoint how far can you say "forgeworld is standard 40k" ?

According to GWs recently released guidelines it is as standard as the SM codex. Which is to say requires agreement between players.

If you dont mind me asking, at say 750-1000 points roughly what sort of Ork+ IG list would you run? I have been looking at this combo for a while wanting to make it work. Just seems like a great synergy CC and Shooty.
