Does anyone else think the Range of the firing mode of the Serpent Shield was a typo? Compared to the range of other Eldar weapons it seems out of place. If it was 6 or 12 inches, I don't think people would think it was overpowered (as per the Wargear discussion.)

No, I don't think it's a typo, a mistake maybe, but I do think they intended it. :/

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

I like it and use it like candy.
Of course I've lost a couple of them doing that.
Curse you darn Dakajets....

I think it harkens back to Epic 40K from the 90's when the Wave Serpent was first introduced. It had a force field thing with a template it shot out and IIRC, a fairly long range as well.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Probably not a typo. Even as sn eldar player I think its too much. 18-24" would be a decent compromise IMO. Maybe take it down to D3+1 instead of D6. Last time I checked shields are meant for defense...

Honestly the 60" range is not that huge, considering you want to be within 36" to twin link it with the scatterlasers anyway.

So why should it be 60" then - (even though 36" is too long) - remember its supposed to be a emergency wepaon only to be used as a last resort - of course its the complete opposite now.

Yeah, and 60" is still very big. The railgun only has 72" for example.

It should be one use only for shooting, and after you shoot it its gone for the game, including the 2+ pens to glances.

I wouldn't mind its 60" range and shots if that's the case.

60" is 5 feet in a game played on 4 ft. by 6 ft. tables. It's also on a vehicle that can move and fire it at no penalties, over any terrain, a foot in it's movement phase.

TL;DR it's never NOT in range.

Ahh, I remember when my beloved Wave Serpent was screamed about in 4th edition just for what having the shield at all gave it for durability versus how skimmer worked.........now it's a japanese manga super-cannon.
