Been fiddling with trying out a few new Ultramarine lists now and then; my change to my Daemons book has started to give me a different perspective of what can be scary on the table top.

1: Yes, FW is cool in my area. yay.

2: List is attempting to be TAC.

3: The Techmarine is there because I had no idea where else to sink 75pts.

HQ:

Tigurius - Hood of Hellfire, Rod of Tigurius, Bolt Pistol - 165

Command Squad - 5x Melta Guns, Drop Pod - 185

Elites:

Contemptor Mortis - 2x Kheres Assault Cannon, CML - 215

And, for a List that uses non-FW, in case I ever come into a situation where FW is disallowed. Some small part of me likes it better, though, but not more than I like my Kheres Contemptor.

Well your instincts are correct; the second list is better.

Also, when you can't figure out how to "cram something in that's 75 points," think what you could trim to make the points gap bigger in order to fit in something better.

For example; how much is a CML on the kheres? You could trim 20 points by losing the combi-plasma's on the tac marines. In any case, get to 100 so you can cram in a TFC; you'll get your Techmarine anyway.

The CML is 35pts; the main advantage for it is that it allows for the Assault Cannons to kill bigger units that are on the edge of it's range, due to the funny ruling in the FAQ... And the Missiles are helpful for when it fulfills it's role of shooting at planes. Also, having a Missile Launcher to searchlight things isn't bad either, since I always seem to get Night Fighting. (except when I'm playing my Daemons...)

I haven't bought a Thunderfire Cannon as of yet; previously, when I originally started buying, the terribleness of the metal models to put together made me cringe and balk. Now it's the fact that it's almost a hundred bucks once you add taxes; and not a lot of them appear on Ebay.

The original debate was between a Typhoon Speeder and the Techmarine; the Techmarine can ride along and provide some 2+ save tanking, or an extra plasma/flamer shot for the tacs. The speeder provides more firepower at range, but dies to a sneeze and a harsh look.

Oh, I forgot to list the Rhinos in the second list, but yeah.

I think it's an improvement, over all; better first blood potential with the meltas, my scoring units will last longer to the *FUN enemies that are the Tau and Eldar, and I still have some decent anti-air capabilities.

I might play around with things some more... I still need to build the Storm Raven, and I'm trying to figure out how/when I want to use it.

Why no apothecary on the command squad. It gives them a reasonably good buff.

Apothecary can't take a Meltagun, as it's not a veteran anymore.
