Went on the GW site today to see if I could get some Blood Bowl dice. Looks like the entire model range gas been pulled. Perhaps connected to GW melting down all its metals? Any one know how long ago they dissapeared?

GW doesn't want you to know about specialist games anymore.
If you go into a GW store and try to bring up Blood Bowl or BFG you'll disappear ala Kim Jong-Un's uncle.

It is really sad that they pulled the models out of production.
I mean, some of the dwarf and Orc models in particular had a real sense of character to them that, when i was a kid, really appealed to everyone.
Even though this is true, there were some shockingly bad models for it, like that Humans star player (Grif Oberwald IIRC) which i thought just looked stupid.
But, if you really still want to collect blood bowl teams, i believe www.comixininos.com still makes lots of those modles in plastic or something.
Hope this helps,
Redjaw

Blood Bowl is still available to buy, though additional teams outside the core set are no longer available.
Dead easy to make your own though. Just use standard Warhammer figures and trim the weapons off.
EDIT - Scratch that. I just checked the site. It's gone

It is not supported by GW, but by many other manufacturers. Just take the living rulebook (or alternative rule sets) and models and boards from the fllowing websites:

April/May last year. They weren't melted down, word got out that they wouldn't be casting any more* Specialist Games stuff and there was a run on the remaining stock, Forge World cancelled their Specialist Games stuff at the same time.
* rumour was GW had stopped buying metal when Fineca$t was introduced, but it took til April for the existing stocks to run out.

They have a living rulebook for the rules, and lots of third party miniatures.
Blood bowl is pretty much GW's fear, a game the fans have taken on and run without them

GW ignored it and let it languish.
The players picked it up and continued to play, improving it and giving it a better set of rules. The LR is a huuuuge improvement over GW.
There are many miniature companies doing "fantasy football" figures, so you aren't just restricted to GW - and many of the other figures put GW's to shame.

Did Fulgrim Just Behead Ferrus?

It suffered the fate of all Specialist Games: once you buy all the stuff you need for the one or two teams/fleets/gangs/etc., you have no incentive to buy more. Thus, each SG made loads of money on release, but as sales died down, GW shuffled them off into a corner to languish unsupported. The better tactic would have been to rotate the Specialist Games on a yearly basic (phase one out, phase one in), allowing for all new players to get into it.
But, as far GW believes, money spent on a Blood Bowl team is money you're not spending on more Space Marines.

What are people doing about the dice? - not that I play blood bowl (never got on with the computer game) but I know enough about the game that the dice are relatively awkward to do a number switch.
I'm thinkg I saw that GW even C&D'ed a webstore I saw custom making them once? Though, I'll admit, I may have imagined that entirely.

There was at least one Blood Bowl fansite that was shut down following a C&D, although not sure if that related to selling dice or the site name (there was that period where anyone with the name 'Warhammer' or anything similar in their website name was getting spooked).
A great game though, and as has been said improved by the fan community that has run with it. If you want a commercially available fantasy sports game you could go for Dreadball instead, although that offers a very different experience.

blood bowl got stopped in GW and out of production as one of the English store managers and his part timer had a punch up in the store over it. it then subsequently got stopped in all stores due to fear of it happening again

Doesn't that happen with all games? If this were true, Monopoly would have been banned by now.

It was only a matter of time until GW pulled it down from the online store. 'Tis a shame though. Why can't they just have 3-4 guys keeping the Specialist Games market alive? They have all the old casts, i'm sure, so why not just cast them to order? I'd be happy to pay a bit extra for my Halfling Team, ya know?

You can get block dice from several places, including impact!
http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=dice
http://www.thediceshoponline.com/prod_info.asp?prodid=2103
http://www.gaspez-arts.com/dice/set-of-3-flaming-skull-block-dice-purple.html
Plenty of places that sell alt blood bowl models also sell block dice.

With all the 3rd party companies supporting blood bowl, is the game more popular now then it ever was when supported by GW?

I know Aussie players get custom dice made up.
They do every year for Eucalyptus bowl, anyway (there's even a koala themed model line to go with them. Angry Koalas - with bared sharp teeth and claws.
It's a thriving game out here.

I'd say no, at least in terms of breadth of market.
I remember playing in 12+ person tournaments in my early teens at the GW store in Exeter. I'm assuming that there aren't a lot of people starting bloodbowl at that age now unless their parents play.

For some reason dwarfs seem to attract some... odd 3rd party Blood Bowl love -
Dwarf Pirates Team.
Cover your eyes boys - they can smell your fear!
Steampunk dwarf team? Steampunk dwarf team!
Yeah - the game is hardly dead, there is enough love out there to keep the game alive, and provide new material.
The Auld Grump - I don't actually like the game, but then I do not much like football either. But any game that garners this much love deserves to be kept alive.

Blood Bowl is alive. It works better than WHFB in my aera. You don't need GW, or need to give them one buck to play BB. Which is damn fine.
If you need something -anything -, just buy it from these fine guys.
