Most HQ's seem to be giant beasts that cost around $50, are there any (Other than the death leaper, of course) that are smaller, cheaper, and more fitting of a small army?

Yeah warriors are great at low point games. Anything high though and he will probably get insta gibbed.

Ok,how would those work in a 1,000 point army?

They work fine, despite the new price point. If kitted for melee, you'd go with bonesword, lashwhip, flesh hooks, and deathspitter for a 150 pt commander, but you can also take him straight-up standard and call it a day.

There's also the base form plus Norn Crown to try and get more synapse, since at a thousand points you'll be hurting.

Hard to get your points back out of him, but if he's your warlord and you're doing whacky Indy Character tricks (I'm with the Gants! Now I'm with the Venomthropes! Now I'm with the Carnifex brood, whee!) he's going to be far harder to take down than people expect.

Just don't expect him to be a murder machine.

We don't have cheap HQs, even the Prime costs well over 100 points before upgrades.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

I mean cash wise, as I could easily accept large amounts of Extra points. Infact, I need some extra points to fill out the 1000 pints I'm aiming for.

Well, price per point I'd say the cheapest option would be to get the double Carnifex kit and make one of them Old One Eye. $90 USD for a 220 point HQ and a 120+ point Heavy Support option.

A Tyranid Prine...comes in the new Warrior box as an alternate fig....I like one for my Nids, and I got a Tyrant for larger point games...

A Warrior box is more expensive than other options.

True dat, but I'll have use for the Warriors (build the other two with cannons) so I can slot in a cannon as needed. Right now I run a big brood of Warriors, with the Cannon Warriors I can split into small Warrior broods for Synapse spam (Maybe...)

And the extra Bits should show up on E bay as they are part of every kit.... and if you're building a 1000 pt force you might be in the market to buy a box anyways...
