It's also a terrible idea to bring two drones because it means you're wounding against majority toughness 4 instead of majority toughness 6.

If you're able to position plasma weaponry somewhere the drones aren't the nearest part of that "unit", you're actually more likely to wound it I think.

If the drones are really a problem, remember just what I said. Majority toughness drops to 4 if he brings 2 drones, so you can pepper it with small arms fire til you strip the drones, and THEN unleash your big guns.

You might want to watch out . Riptide's drones are toughness 6, not 4, and so won't lower the majority toughness.

Why would the majority toughness drop to 4? You have 3 T6 models and 0 T4 models so why on earth would the majority be T4? On what basis are you claiming 0 > 3?

Yes my Colour is Black but not for the reasons stated mainly just because it's slimming... http://imperiusdominatus.blogspot.com

Are the drones T6 too? I thought they were just T4 :O

Blame that on me not knowing the Tau codex. :( Derp.

Most of the drones are T4. Riptide drones are T6 though.

Shielded missile drones aren't that hard to kill. They have 4+ invulns and 4+ armor saves. If anything, you should focus fire them with low AP guns and then fire your high AP rounds at the riptide. Not to mention the riptide will have to take a ld test for losing a single drone and given how most tau players love to hug the back board edge with their riptide lists, there's a 27% chance that the riptide will run off the board from losing a single drone.

I.E: Against multiple riptides, you've got a good chance of scaring one off the board by split firing for their drones (if they have them) rather than alpha striking one of them.

Riptide players are also very easy to exploit. I like to take a night scythe or two in a game, alpha strike their anti-armor in turn 1 and then in turn 2 bring on the flyers to draw the interceptor fire which then makes them unable to fire in their next shooting phase.

With a good alpha strike capable army, you can usually work your way through at least one every turn.

Bring an annihilation barge phalanx as support to clear the board of troops, crisis teams and pesky commanders. Let the high strength, high AP assault guns (eldritch lances, heavy gauss cannons, ect) advance slowly while insta killing anything that's not a riptide (such as broadsides and commanders). The tau T4 and lack of anti-armor is their weakness.
