Apologies for being so late on the uptick, but why is it that Grey Knights and Inquisution get such vastly better LRCs? Identical stats, except for 5 or 10 points they get +1 Strength on all of their weapons (And for Grey Knights, they usually ignore Shaken and Stunned too.)

Mat Ward thought that +1S on assault cannons, bolters, and autocannons was only worth 5pts. It was abused to the full hilt in 5E.

That said, given the changes to the core edition with 6E, the rest of the army has been notably toned down such as to make this problem largely a non-issue at this point.

Actually, one point you're all forgetting is that going from S4 to S5 was actually bad in 5th edition. S4 or less guns were Defensive Weapons and if you moved at combat speed, you could fire them all in addition to the one you were allowed to fire normally, so a stock Crusader could go 6" and fire everything. Psybolt ammo pushed the hurricanes out of the Defensive weapon band.

Having the Emperor as your Primarch has some perks i guess

Depends on your target and rate of movement, also there was of course PotMS to mitigate that as well.

Pintle Multi-melta for 10, no psybolt, and you could roll 6", fire three anti-infantry guns at one target and take a speculative melta shot at something else. Psybolt up and you could no longer do this.

If you're not going to go at least 6", you're probably making less than optimal use of the 16 Assault Transport capacity.

All of the Matt Ward comments aside. The GK army plays very different from a Space Marine army. It is focused on super-elite small army units. The GK landraider is in support of that.

To be fair, the land raiders are all over priced. The GK/Inq version is the only landraider that people actually take because it is useful without some combo. The other landraiders are only useful when combined with an enhancer; ie banner of devastation (btw this is the most damage codex landraider) and PFG (the most durable), Be'Lakor for invisibility, Khan+Dev Cents for scouting, IWND iron hands, etc. or they are spamming AV14 for a counter meta list. Usually it is a combination of these.

S4 was defensive in 5th. S5 meant it no longer counted as defensive.

Because the Inquisition is higher ranking than anyone else in the Imperium, excepting the Emperor, and so gets the nicest toys.

They get some weapons, equipment, and upgrades that other Chapters don't get in order to make them unique. Every army in the game gets this. Blood Angels get much better dreadnoughts and assault troops, Dark Angels get better bikes and terminators, Space Wolves get more HQ's. It's all part of what makes the armies different and flavorful. They lose out on lots of things over base marines, too. (Note the Crusader is the only LR they have access to.) They can't break down in combat squads, or take Chapter Tactics, and lack access to some of the specialized equipment of the other chapters/base marines. It all shakes out in the wash.

Now if only GK could get Bikes/Centurions/Storm Talons/Drop Pods...etc
