Subject: Hits, glance, pens, and jink

So after spending almost 2 weeks of boredom on the big island for a field exercise, I was thinking about hits, glances, pens, and jink.
If you shoot at a skimmer/flyer say about 15 times and HIT it about 5 times. Ok vehicle pen time, here we GOOO!!! U glance with 1, pen with 1, and flop with the other 3.
"I see your shooting at my skimmer/flyer? Ok time to jink yo... Haha sucker I rolled 2 5's"  ~~~
Is it me or does this $h!t make no sense? If you get hit 5 times, how the hell do you manage to dodge the only 2 hits that actually do any damage?
Maybe gw just using the wrong wording cause the definition of glance is to deflect/ricochet/bounce off. So if that's what glance means wtf do the other hits do?
Just think it's funny, that's all.

I don't imagine it as getting hit, and then jinking to magically remove only the shots that did damage. Because it all happens in a specific order in the game, doesn't mean it should happen like that in real life.
If you think about how this might actually happen - vehicle gets shot at, pilot sees incoming fire and takes evasive maneuvers, it either works or doesn't, and then the damage is taken accordingly.
The game mechanic doesn't make sense when being looked at from a real life perspective, but doing it any other way (jinking immediately after hits, or jinking for each shot taken at you and subtracting from the total) would be a little odd as you would be rolling them allllll the time (too much snap firing as a result).

Its the same way cover save works in this game.
you didnt actually ever hit, the shot was just spoiled.

I think the rule states you actually have to jink after you're hit and before results.
So, if your opponent is jinking after you've rolled for glances and pens, he's out of sequence and can't jink. So long as you gave him the opportunity that is. So many times I've had an opponent just roll for the results immediately.
Not sure how to solve that though; they'll either roll above average or below average and the majority of the time it's usually damage or no damage. For fairness, I should just take the jinked status, but I have had some opponents actually want to reroll their squadoosh roll because "I didn't realise that".
So, in the cases where someone rolls before giving me the opportunity to jink, I'll just make my decision to jink or not after the results.
Also, don't start questioning the logic of the rules.
A space marine can throw a grenade at a flyer, but can't fire a plasma cannon at it.

You're getting Evading / Diving and Jink mixed up.
Skimmers and Jetbikes that have moved in the previous turn have Jink, which is a 4+ or 5+ cover save depending on speed. Roll to hit, roll to penetrate, roll cover saves. No need to declare anything.
Flyers and Flying Monstrous Creatures can choose to declare Evade or Dive after being hit but before the penetration or wound roll happens. Evading / Diving gives the model Jink, which is used after the to penetrate / to wound roll in the same way as above.

Jimk just gives it a cover save.......so, did it more, or not? If it did, it gets a +5 cover save. Same as termagaunts sitting omn a hill have a +4 cover save, after hits, after rolls to wound. Works the same way.

It's always been confusing why you roll saves after you roll wounds. I remember back in 2nd edition 40k and 4th edition fantasy watching GW staffers giving intro games and people being confused why the enemy they just "wounded" now gets a save from their armour, surely the armour would have stopped the hit before it had a chance to "wound".

The order does seem a bit strange, but that's how it works.
And that's why Buffmander, Divination, and other things that take away cover saves are in high demand.
