Canada eh?

ITs looks nice now Keep in minde you want two basic colors cuz its a Nid But then you hafto paint all claws and throats, then the eyes, veins, muscle, wounds then its should be tabletop ready.

If your looking for a more interesting model you might want to convert, weather or even decorate the base... who knows maybe even make lore or "Favored" ones...

And remember the more layers of paint the better the color will be BUT dont smother your details out.

So far it looks very good but try and make them creepier...

Yeah... Not the best person to talk to no more, great fandom(sarcasm)

Does anyone have any easy ideas for the base. I'm thinking perhaps some sand and a rock or to on it? Then i''ll apply a wash.

For the base I use both the citadel sand and grass. They're less than 10 bucks a piece and one tub takes you a long way so I don't regret going GW on that. I would glue the feet before I put the sand down thought, as its a huge pain to glue feet onto the sand directly. I dont paint the sand and it still looks much better than a plain base. As for the paint scheme, I've found with Tyranids that I use a dark base for the flesh, then drybrush the flesh with a shade brighter. The scales I paint a dark color, then I outline every scale with a shade brighter, and then drybrush with the same brighter shade afterward to blend them. It isnt too difficult or time consuming and makes the details pop. 2 layers are always better than one

Well first off I can't believe that one guys comments (the rude one at the start) I don't understand people sometimes *sigh*

Honestly it could use some work but I assume you are just starting so its fine!
I think the blue and black carapace look really good so good job on that!
I would paint the swords using Bleached Bone and same with the teeth and then just do a light drybrush of 50/50 bleached bone and skull white.

You could do the deathspitter I think it just needs a different colour but its not that bad the way it is.

Bases can be done a million and 1 ways but for this model I would go down to your local games store (or even the park) and get some small sand/gravel and just glue it down and once it dries take some watered down PVA (white) glue and paint it ontop the sand so it doesn't fall off.

Another really easy basing idea (that I use alot) is buy some polyfill or a product for patching holes in drywall. Put some on the base and texturize it with a knife, let it dry.
It turns out white so I would paint it a dark brown (mournfang brown) and then let it dry and do a heavy drybrush of skrag brown.
Bing bang boom your model is done I hope that helps! Keep up the good work and continue to paint you will see some awesome results after some practice Best of luck!

Sorry doesn't belong in this thread. The Model is not finished.

A few ground rules about posting in this forum:

1) Models must be FINISHED. Complete. Done. Not-Works-In-Progress. You can decide what's finished, and we're not legislating quality here, but if you're still working on it, it goes in either Painting & Modeling or P&M Blogs. The Showcase is where you show off what you've completed and want to wow people with.

This is completely unacceptable. Please check the email that you used to register this account with.

-=Edit=- Your email address doesn't work, so please note that you will be unable to post on Dakka Dakka for two weeks. We don't typically air out dirty laundry like this in public, but the unacceptable nature of your comment in this forum in particular, coupled with our inability to reach you otherwise, has resulted in this.

agreed. dakka dakka has excellent standards in terms of what you can and cant say, even if I have fallen short once or twice, and the above(first) comment is absolutely unacceptable.

@ OP: looking quite good so far.
the carapace is great, I would suggest a wash of GW gulliman blue to give it a nice "shiny" effect. the skin, perhaps a wash with charoburg crimson.
green is realy easy : warpstone green, beiltan green.
good luck.

This thread was a but disheartening at first with overwhelming criticism but it turned about and now we are getting somewhere.

I will stay out of the painting tips since there are quite a few before me. One thing however is that is seems to me there is a bit detail and nuance that is muted by the camera and the lighting conditions. It might be a good idea to use natural light when taking pictures for critique since they might show details and colour variations better.

Besides that, coming along nicely. Have fun!

The Showcase Forum is only for finished models - including the base.

You're certainty off to a good start though!

Great improvement. Keep it up.

Looks a lot better now.

As for basing, I'd first come up with a theme. For example, all of my orks are from a desert world, and have desert bases - sand and rock, primarily, with a few bits thrown in to make the bases interesting. Having a plan for how you're going to base your army makes them look uniform, which makes them look like an army.

The new results look great! For my bases I use the new agrellan earth. Add allitle dead grass or normal grass from GW and you get a nice easy base. Don't let time get you down either. The last standard IG model I painted took me three hours.

For bases just color code them for now, but mark there accident by ecosystems and evolutions... or how by how you would remember them I suppose...

Your pics are really hard to tell where it's at (blurry). Like Others I agree you need to break up the red a little on the body maybe some highlighted dry brushing to make it pop some. Ignore the trolls esp. when there stuff doesn't look that good either.

Looks good so far for tabletop standards.
