As the initial title states do stomps therefore count towards combat res and get effected by Smash?

If they are close combat attacks why bother putting in Ap4 when everything that can stomp makes them Ap2 through smash?

Noticed this on the new Knights and have realised its an issue through out Apoc and Escalation (along with the literally indeciferable D weapon rules). What are peoples thoughts?

Having read the rules on it a ton the last few days here is my take on it.

EDIT: Corrections made after re-reading the rules and understanding the question better. I thought the Knight had a note saying that it's Stomp attacks were AP4 from the question.

1) They are a CC attack so they would be AP2 from the Smash USR.

2) They are are wounds that go towards combat resolution.

3) They are not part of the attack profile so you can not use them to Smash go towards the Smash attack of halving your attacks to double the strength. Same as HoW or tail attacks.

Both HoW and Tail attacks specifically call out smash and say it doesn't work with them, otherwise smash would work with both those rules. Where does stomp specify it doesn't work with smash?

I was reading your question on the phone and miss read the question. I thought you wanted to know if they could trade in the Stomp attacks toward using a Smash attack and not the Smash USR.

Re-reading Smash I think you are right and that Stomp attacks are resolved at AP2.

Not sure where the AP4 is coming from though.

Have you read the stomp rules they specify the models take a S6 Ap4 hit. Which is weird as literally every model that can stomp has smash making those hits Ap2.

Looking at them right now in Escalation on pg15. I assume you mean for a 2-5 result.

In that case I was right as the Stomp table would override the Smash USR. Specific trumps general.

Stomp attacks are never defined as being close combat attacks. They happen during the Fight subphase, but are specifically called a "special attack".

Looks like my original answer was right, but I'm not going to change it back.

I'm to tired to be on YMYC today I guess.

Also, doesnt stomp now use the large blast template?

That would make it closer to a shooting attack which we know doesnt use smash.

So do they count towards combat res? If yes why?

Yes, because the Determine Assault Results section of the assault tells us to count all unsaved wounds caused during that combat.
