Have you been to Sci-Fi City?
They could probably help a lot in this regard.

Sci fi city is good, but I also recall Phoenix Games being awesome. They're a little further out toward Apopka, but well worth the drive to not have to deal with Sci fi city (it can be a massive pain in the ass dealing with the management).

It is, indeed, sad. They likely closed for the following reason.
There does happen to be an actual GW store in Altamonte Springs. It's in the Renaissance Center Plaze, though seems to be under construction and is likely to move. The manager there is actually legit, and the player base is a fairly even split of Fantasy and 40k.
If you have a small force together, you can typically find a pick-up game on Fridays and Saturdays. Beginners Leagues are also fairly common.
Sci-Fi City is another option. The player base is heavily 40k, but does tend to draw from a strong following of power gamers and net-listers, so I would not recommend them for a friendly pick up game or a learning experience.
Paladin Tech and Game is another spot, but this is getting out towards Avalon Park/Waterford Lakes area. Friendly staff, a few tables to play on, and generally good times. I have not been out there on a regular basis, so I cannot comment on the likelihood of finding a game to watch.
If you're looking to play a 40k game, feel free to PM me, and we'll work something out. always happy to get people back into a good game. I also happen to be a Chaos player.
Cheers

I live in Leesburg FL, and just like you, I was looking to learn the ins and outs of 40K. A couple of months ago, I used the "player finder" feature here on Dakka Dakka and found a couple of great guys locally that play 40K and were willing to teach a noob how to play. As a matter of fact, we have a game tomorrow night!
That sucks that Phoenix games shut down, but I can say that the GW store in Altamonte Springs is an AWESOME place to play and the manager is a very personable, down to earth, approachable guy. I can't recommend his store enough. I used to go to sci-fi city, but its Altamonte Springs GW all the way now.
BTW, there is a big 40K tournament this weekend in Orlando called the Crucible, you could go there and watch as many games as you want and see just about every army played. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Crucible/178910952175928?ref=profile

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

Tiny little town, crammed between The Villages and Summerfield. And at least an hour and a half in any direction from anything remotely resembling a game store.

7th inning is the closest, but it seems more like a comic shop than a gaming store. I have yet to see anyone playing anything besides card games. It is the shop I visit most often, and I am ever hopeful that I might meet some tabletop gaming inclined persons.

I'm over in Oviedo. There are quite a few game stores near the Orlando Area. There is also Mini Duels on Aloma, and Campus Cards and Games stocks some GW stuff, and occasionally there is a game going on there. They are right across from UCF.

@sammy & IamJacksusername:
If either of you plan on coming down to Sarasota at some point, send me a PM. We have a pretty big community at Dark Side. We can arrange a game.

A buddy of mine ( slayith on dakka dakka ) goes there almost every Sat. to play 40K, he says that there is a fairly large 40K community there on Saturdays.
