Another is introduced in the fluff right after he is introduced in the game, but is killed in his first apearence.

The story really doesn't drive the game.

I too worry about this game. I love the fluff. The models are great

Do I like that I had to buy new stat cards for my models a few months after I got them, No
Do I like that many stores locally won't carry it because it is Direct distrobution, No

As for the release schedule, people complain, but they release something at least once a month, just not something for every faction once a moth. But there are popular games out there that have more eratic release shedules and they keep going.

I do find it strange that the original kickstarter had 1000+ backers and they had a successfull week on Beasts of War, but still only have 500 backers.

Outlaw does interact with the community very well.
I've always had great customer service from them

And the first Kickstarter had the best fulfilment of any kickstarter I've funded.

It is a fun game, but the miniatures game market is glutter, and many stores are afraid to pull the trigger on a game if they don't see players in seats first.

I have yet to read the story so I cannot make any points on that. I do think they have a solid place in the market though as no game has really done Weird Wild West as well as they have. Also their minis are awesome quality so that is nice.

I think in regards to the 500+ vs 1000 there are a few factors to consider- 1) The current KS has a long way to go till its over. I still believe it will get to a 1000 pretty easily 2) This month is overblown with big named KS, so I think a lot of people are going to find a lot of these KS do a lot worse than expect just because too many people are running too many all at once. 3) They did not do any early birds and that is what the current trend in KS is to get a lot of people on-board really fast. There are pros and cons to this. 4) KS has lost a lot of its shine after the first few years as people have been burned and many are hesitant of it. I am apart of the KS cause I know they will deliver awesome stuff at good deals and I usually do a lot of research into them before I pledge. I can happily say I have only ever been burned once on a KS (and its was a new company that was taking a risk so I kind of figured I had a 50/50 chance at it working out).

Another update!

Unlocked

Also a revised Stretch Goals List- Outlaw I suppose had this planned and is both realistic update as well as considering feedback- that is what I like about good KS- transparency and listening to realistic suggestions (not just whatever randoms say)

Essentially what they have done is group everything up so you unlock bundles instead of one faction thing at a time- it makes more sense as that doesn't ever leave anyone's faction high and dry.

Also less than 2000 till everyone gets an additional hired hands box to each bundle. That is an EXTRA FREE $35 value to each bundle. Great deal!

Is now at over 50% off Retail.

If you were hesitant to pledge before, now is the time to jump in!

Ok so some really cool pictures and stats-

The snake is a duel faction so that is awesome.

Also if you haven't joined the KS yet, they have added a bunch of cool free-stuff/some awesome add-ons. It has always been a solid value but now it is just awesome!

Side note- I love the constriction with the snake- that is just a hard hitting awesome move!

Wow. Not only is the Snake multi-faction, it is also not unique. Meaning you can field up to 8 of these monsters...

It'll be fun to see some snake on snake violence. Will be interesting to see how they will factor differently into the confederate and enlightened armies.

That snake will be quite a pest for sure. With a 4" Halo it will be able to threaten quite a large area of the battlefield.

Anyone else less than impressed by the Dark Nation Hired Hand heads? I like the figs but most of those heads need to go.

Do the Golden Army Hired Hands ALL have to have sombreros? Can't we have a bit of variation on the headgear?

I think they look kind of hideous because that is the point. The people who use the new chemical are stuck between spirit animal, human and a chemically warped human version. Essentially they are horribly horribly corrupted humans- also explains why a lot of their models have influence/high influence indicating pretty deep corruption across all of them. They just freak me out.

As for the Golden Army- the non hat wearing ones are in the second wave of hired hands but they need to be unlocked. They showed a picture sometime ago of what they would be and they look pretty awesome. I believe they are the bloodthirsty banditos.

All that being said I am in for the CR, Watchers and the stretch goal add-ons as I love those two instead. I just want to blow through more stretch goals to unlock those awesome Heavy Supports.

First of all: I agree with both of your opinions. But I think both the DN and GA HH look the way they look not by accident, but on purpose.

The DN HH are the "grunts" of once noble warriors having become beasts beyond redemption. Their models support this, and this is including the brutish looking heads. I wish they hadn't chosen those massive lower jaws - to put it friendly, I think they look like full retards - but it was done as part of a coherent design decision. It works with the blunt tech weaponry and the other models of the faction. I don't like their look, but I appreciate the thought that has obviously gone into everything.

Same for the GA HH: of course I'd love some hat variation. On the other hand: it is a very strong visual cue, and it supports the notion of an endless wave of disposable cannon fodder. Which is exactly what the HH in the GA are. Again, I had wished for something else, but I can acknoledge that it is part of a greater theme.

So it really boils down to a matter of taste. Those models will be great from the point of view of technical quality - all other kits so far have been so, and I have no doubts that it will stay so.

I understand that it was deliberate, but think they went too far. Exaggeration is a strong part of art, but if exaggerate too much, you move into the cartoon zone and stuff looks silly, which is what happened with most of the DN HH figs. As you say, full slow, which is something you never, ever want to do... I'm sure that Darnok and I could start a campaign in the comments section to try to get the DN heads to look ferocious, not silly/stupid.

I have no interest in the game itself, but those watcher models, I'll be picking some of those up once they hit retail. Best looking "greys" I've ever seen.

The scale won't even stop them fitting in with all my 28mm stuff, coz there frikkin aliens.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

None of the models alread having renders will change one iota from their current look. You have a chance to change things with models that only have an artwork so far, but all the "basic Faction Bundle contents" are set in stone by now. Just too expensive to redo them. And I guess they are happy with them.

Also: after a certain dispute just days ago with Romeo I'm sure he'd not take my advice if the life of his mother depended on it.

Well they can't change the model but maybe they could release new head add-on package for the models? I mean they do that for the bikers. Also the bodies look good its just some of the faces.

Also not really sure why that would cause you to drop a project, they deliver on time, have a great product and the KS is a great discount all things considered so not really sure why anyone would drop it/not back if if they are interested in the models.

It seems the more I look about this game, there is bits of drama and racism claims (I don't agree) sprinkled on everything (not just here). I have never played the game, but it looks cool/like a fun game for the wife and I. It also seems like a game that could be learned around a busy work/10 month old baby in the house sort of schedule, 40k lost this battle for my wife, even though I already have a small army I play with a friend, unfortunately. When looking at games to play together that would fit in our life....It came down to WWX, Kings of War , Mercs, Infinity, Warmahordes, or possibly Warpath when they have a KS later this year. We could not find enough about Warpath, so right or wrong it came down to WWX and Kings of War. I really hope we are making the right choice with this game above the others, because its a lot of money.

I don't agree with the racism bit either. It seems that these days everyone gets offended so easy... a game based on history is going to have some issues embedded in that not everyone will agree on because... well that stuff happened.

Out of 10 factions we have Europeans, two armies of indians, an alien race, a Hispanic race, a religious army, and four armies made up of primarily white persons but could be painted as whatever race you want. There are mercs of different races too.

Slavery is not current in the game (was abolished and not what the union vs confeds are about), the indians are the good guys, etc. Looks to me like they added something for pretty much everyone!

A sombrero or feathers dont make a company racist and outlaw minis encourages all to play. I have never seen bias in rhe company (i have seen some oversensative folk on the wwx forums who try to make something out of nothing) -but that's just my opinion.

I have a 10 month old and we find time to play several nights a week. This game is fast, easy, strategic, and a blast! I have seen several leave 40k for this game. In the long run this game is far cheaper than 40k, the games can be longer or shorter based on points, you can use 40k terrain, etc.

You won't regret this game. I took a change in the first kickstarter and have went all in, buying everything they make. I myself have slowed down with gw stuff and am glad I have done so.

ClockworkChaos wrote:Well they can't change the model but maybe they could release new head add-on package for the models? I mean they do that for the bikers. Also the bodies look good its just some of the faces.

The additional heads for the Iron Horses were due to the models being one sculpt each only. So no variation in the heads if you had multiples. Additional heads made that variation possible.

I don't see them making replacement heads for HH. As stated earlier, I think the models look just as they want them to look.

455_PWR wrote:I don't agree with the racism bit either.

Yeah, it's odd. Especially if you consider that there isn't much you can do to differentiate a model in 35mm in terms of "racial features" without getting into racist cliche territory. How you paint your models is so much more important - and that's nothing the company has control over.

While I'd wish for some more varied looking Mercs - and yes, include some stereotypical Chinese/Blacks/whatever in there - I don't see any intentional racism in the range. The factions are what they are, and adding "racial diversity" is more up to the gamer/painter. You want more blacks on the table? Paint your models accordingly, done.

And to get back on topic: after some abysmal days the KS seems to get "back on track". If you're interested in the detailed numbers: check KickTraq. I hope Adepticon brings in a lot of fresh blood!

They really, really shouldn't have gone with "savages" as the name of the dark nation hired hands. The term was used to justify the genocide of the indigenous population. That, coupled with the orc-like heads of the hired hands are likely where the complaints are coming from. Please note that while I think it's not a great choice, I'm still in the campaign, with the DN as one of my starter choices, as they look like a ton of fun to paint. People get bent out of shape on a lot, but I just think there's a bit more merit on this than your usual Tumblr stupidity.

Sure you can base a game on alt history, but to include real life derogatory jargon used at the time isn't a great call. I wouldn't expect an Irish faction's hired hands to be "the drunks" or a Jewish faction's models to look like a Nazi propaganda poster with choice exaggerated features and get bonuses to banking.

So to bring this around - are the watchers going to be the "cheap" faction to run, in terms of building a reasonable force? And the Golden Army is going to be the one that breaks the bank?

I suppose another to remember is even though this is alternate history they are still using real people from history and almost all of these people were corrupt, racist, brutal, terrible terrible humans. They have softened them up a bit but it doesn't keep away from the fact this game has dark roots (really any game even remotely based on history will have these).

And I think "savages" does work in this context. Its not the warrior nation that is being called savages they are treated with respect and are the "good guys" as much as they can be. The savages are literal savages as much as the word can mean that. They are half-human half-spirit animal abominations that seem to have lost a lot of cognitive abilities and thrive on killing. From the fluff what I get is they don't really think that straight and just want to kill. Regardless of who they were before I would label that pretty savage.

I've bought and played this game after checking out a demo last year at the Las Vegas Open. I reaely feel it has solid potential, I plan on backing up this kickstarter as well.

I really dig the alternate history lore it has going, the novels have been a great read so far!
