With the release of the new Imperial Knights, I've been thinking about putting together an army representing all of the forces that a Knight world could muster.
Trawling the background on Lexicanum and the 40k wiki, its says that the Ad Mech placed outposts on the knight worlds, who possessed remnants of pre age of strife technology. A couple of quotes stuck out in particular:

"The Knights provided Mechanicum settlements with the manpower and military force required to drive off incursions by Orks or Eldar Exodites and the Mechanicum in return provided the Knight Worlds with their advanced technology and the skills needed to rebuild their lost civilisations."

"when a force of Imperial Guardsmen acts in support of a Knight Household, the Knight Seneschal technically can take command of the Guardsmen, acting as their company commander for the duration of combat operations."

My thinking is a force led by a Knight walker, with lots of guardsmen in tow (possibly including rough riders as a nod to the fact that the knights used to go to combat mounted on horseback, so their culture may include some horse warriors still), and a contingent of adeptus mechanicus alongside. (Either represented with the Cybernetica list from the horus heresy books, as my gaming group are lenient on allies when it comes to cool stuff, or chaos marines for stricter opponents).

I'm also considering having the knight world guard use rhinos instead of chimeras as they would look nicer aesthetically alongside the knights, being sleeker than the more rivet studded, utilitarian chimera. Fluffwise, the knight worlds date back to pre-imperium times, and are less likely to model their forces on the strictures of the imperial guard, especially given that rhinos were available to the imperial army before the heresy. Their alliance with the mechanicum, and the ease of production of the rhino, could also count in the favour of knight world troops having access to them.

What do people think to the concept of the force as a whole, and to the rhinos in particular? Cool idea, or fluff abomination?

Why must I always choose beween certain death and probable death.

Overall I think it sounds pretty good. Would perhaps be careful about the Rhino thing, but you could proxy them out one way or other if need be. FW comes with its own health warnings of course, but again proxy can be your friend there if need be.

Go for it I say.

I'm mainly after the aesthetics/fluff of the rhino, if my opponent had no problems with it I would happily cont them as chimeras (I could even give them a multi laser turret).
