OK, so I've been ogling this model for ages now and I think I'm going to have to buy it....

Problem is I've looked at the rules and this guy is just insane for his points, and I don't know if I have the heart to bring it to the table in fear of wiping large portions of the opponent away each turn with the R'varna alone - I'm not a player who likes to bring units for the sake of winning every time, I play purely for fun and love a bit of fluff to my army.

What are your opinions on bringing these forgeworld monsters to friendly games? And how do you think people will respond in friendly games?

Thanks!

You are probably looking at his first draft experimental rules - the revamped versions are much "friendlier"

Call it a regular riptide, so long as you dont spam them it should be okay. The model is badass and i honestly wouldnt mind fighting one with normal rules. Mephiston salivates at the chance

Not that it matters because given the amount of interbreeding that went on with that lot I'm pretty sure the Queen is her own Uncle.

Yeah, the new rules aren't very OP. In fact, it might even be bordering on over-costed.

Tbh, he reliably kills any vehicle short of a LR every turn.

The equivalent to 12 S8 shots is... Nasty, especially when it is large blasts as to make missing difficult.

The only difference I can see is the pulse submumition is now AP 4...

Ah, now I see where the difference is - you can't fire the twin weapons the next turn after nova charge.

I personally wouldn't play against experimental rules if the player was playing a competitive game.

If you drop 3 riptides on the field and then ask if you can drop an experimental unit too, I'm probably going to say no.

Every other turn. And it would need to pass the nova charge. Otherwise it'd be like a Long Fang squad with an extra missile. For twice the points. And you don't really see a lot of Long Fangs these days, do you?

It's not crap. Not at all. But what made it good before was that in addition to being good against vehicles, it was also amazing against hordes (still is), MEQs, most MCs, and could take EWO.
