Subject: what is the most survivable option? BA transports

Hey hey guys.
Lately Ive been putting together a blood angels list and Ive been pondering wether its viable. I dont play competitive but would definately say that the people i play against want to win and arent afraid of running cheesy lists (read: Taudar wraithknight and riptides) What I am wondering about is a way to build up my list so that i dont get all of my transports blown up Turn 1 and am then essentially crippled. My collection at the moment consists of
Librarian
2 sanguinary priests with jump packs and power axes
10 Sternguard
15 Assault Marines
10 Death company
2 Death company dreadnoughts
Now all this with upgrades comes to about 1485 and we usually play at 2k. So im looking to spend about 500 points on transporting the sternguard and the death company across the field.
Option #1: My innitial thought was to put both of the death company and sternguard in a land raider which would give me a LOT of armor together with the two dreadnoughts running acros the board, but i cant help but feel that sticking a shooty sternguard unit in a land raider is a big waste.
Option #2: break the sternguard into two squads and run them in razorbacks along with the deathcompany in a landraider, more seperate units but easier to pop.
Option #3: DC in land raider and sternguard in a stormraven. This feels like its painting a huge target on the stormraven and if it gets destroyed on its way in ive lost 1/4 of my force. but having the flyer might give me an advantage?
I would love to hear what your thoughts are on these options or whether you think there is a better way. on the whole I am not a fan of drop pods because of their $:points ratio and they are not very easy to transport around so i would prefer to avoid them.
Looking forward to hearing some suggestions

I think the 'Land Raider is dead mantra' has been overblown... and this favors Land Raiders.
CAN they be one-shotted? Yes.
CAN they be one-shotted easier in 6th than in 5th by melta weapons? Yes.
CAN they be glanced to death? Yes.
Looks bad for Land Raiders, but consider the bright side.
There are far fewer melta weapons around than there were in 5th. Many players spend the points on lascannon, plasma and grav weaponry. What this means is, you can choose to focus down or avoid the meltas and your AV14 chassis will have a strong chance of doing its intended job: forcing your assault units through the incoming fire for two turns and into CC.
BAs have more access to this than anybody for a reasonable cost. It may be worth it. ...be scared of Tau.

cool so thats a vote for land raiders, I think I would like a Close combat character attached to the sternguard in the land raider to still be able to make some use of the assault ramp. Seperating from the unit when disembarking and assaulting something that either the sternguard have softened up or joining up with an assault squad. Any recomendations for such a character? I was thinking of squeezing maybe a tycho in there somewhere but at 175 points he is quite expensive. maybe a chaplain or reclusiarch? then again...I am just adding a character for the sake of using the assault ramp im buying so might not even be worth it in the end.
HQ
Librarian. Jump pack 125
Elite
2x Sang priest, 2x Power Axe, 2x Jump pack 180
Sternguard, 10x combi plasma, Land raider 550
Troop
Assault squad, 7 marines, Power sword, 2x meltagun 171
Assault squad, 8 marines, Power sword, 2x meltagun 189
Death company, 10 marines, PowerFistx2, LandRaider Crusader 500
Death Company Dreadnought, Heavy Flamer, Meltagun 135
Death Company Dreadnought, Heavy Flamer, Meltagun 135
1985
This would be the list at the moment. Any comments? I know that two scoring squads isnt a lot but im prepared to take a hit on that..

Have you thought about pods? You can combat-squad a 10pack of sternguard in a pod and have em drop down turn one. Also provides a nice delivery system for a fragnought. Just make sure you have enough coming in to put the hurt on and give the enemy a choice of targets.
i run both a stormraven and a landraider in my lists and i find it to be an effective way to deliver troops. Be careful what you put in the raven though as they tend to explode. I put a dual blood talon death company dread in mine and it works wonders. . The dread is also pretty survivable if the raven goes boom.
One thing to consider is that as expensive as land raiders are they almost never make their points back. The only way they are effective is to deliver your hard hitting assault troops into close combat. I'm not saying dont put the sternguard in one, but it could serve a better purpose.
You also have 15 scoring units which tends to be a problem....

I have thought about pods but besides the fact that i dont like them $:points wise I also cant figure out a good strategy to keep the contents of the pod(s) that drops turn 1 alive. The rest of my army will only be half way up the board in my oponents turn which will lead to whatever dropped getting destroyed, as I dont have any long range firepower to give the opponent any juicy targets. perhaps that is a good thing though to sacrifice the podded units to bring the rest up the table safely.

kk, here's what I think 1) What are the assault marines doing? As I have always found that a couple cheap fast razorbacks are a nice way for the BA to help show what they're there to do 2) Storm raven. It's great perfect for your army, as it means that you not only have your DC and a DC dread in CC wherever you want by turn 3, but you have some nice AA as well. 3) A land raider redeemer is what you want for your sternguard, as it gets them into rapid-fire range relatively safely and has some nice short range weapons to help scare away those nasty melta men. These are my ideas for what I think would help you with transport, and with the 515 pts I think you can get at least a LR, SR and a razorback or two. I would also swap one of the DC dreads for a vindcator, as the main idea of my vehicle based army is to use multiple units to keep the opponent preoccupied before the hammer unit, either a Assault Termie squad with a furioso dread or the DC and DC dread placed in the storm raven. It depends what you're facing, as the 1st is best for MC, tanks, and heavy troops, wheras the DC is more for anything infantry (not that that stops them )

Looks like Im going to go with twin land raiders then. Will keep the walking DC dreads in the list for now as they add a bit of armor saturation and with hopefully everything shooting at the land raiders they should make it into combat by turn 3 (maybe even 2). Now the question is which land raiders to use. I was thinking crusader for the DC transport as it will allow the unit they are charging to be softened up a bit first. but the redeemer should be able to do this too. Difference is that the crusader can shoot at things throughout the entire game. for the sternguard I am in doubt between all three variants. standard land raider adds some high strength low AP shooting to my list, crusader adds more bolter shots which is always great with sternguard and a redeemer will do a good job of keeping them safe by decimating anything that gets too close to wherever they jump out into cover. Thought on land raider variants?
