Hey guys!

Played a game with a friend earlier and just when I thought we had finally had a game without any rule disagreements the following question came up:

Would an enemy unit still score a 'Linebreaker' victory point in my deployment zone if they were in locked in close combat with a unit of mine?

I ask as the rule book does not state anything regarding units in CC, however it doesn't seem worthy of a victory point as breaking the line yet been unable to defeat a unit of warriors is hardly victorious!

Thanks in advance.

They still count, to my knowledge.

The rulebook tells you a unit in your opponents deployment zone gets you a VP. It says nothing about being locked in CC denying you that so why would you think it would? You've read the relevant rule so I don't know what you expect other than us telling you to follow the clearly laid out rules?

Well it doesn't seem fair that any random enemy unit should earn a Linebreaker VP if they are locked in close combat.

Slaying the Warlord and First Blood etc are worthy of the VP, as would first defeating an enemy unit and walking free into the enemy deployment zone 'victorious'.

However blatantly getting tied into CC knowing you may survive in order to gain the VP seems unworthy.

I've also had opponents think that units locked in CC wouldn't score Linebreaker, probably based on the fact that units in CC were, at one point, not able to claim objectives.

Its 1 VP and the unit has to survive until the end of the game, why should you throwing say a unit of grots or 7-8 termagants into a suicidal combat stop a Terminator squad from gaining linebreaker? They've still breached your line.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Linebreaker is a lot fairer than first blood. Who ever goes first has a whole turn extra to gain it.

Why is it not fair? Both players can do it

CrownAxe: it's not fair because it apparently means he lost! lol
