I haven't played 40k in a while, and thought id get back in with a friendly(for charity) tournament coming up in my area. I am unknown to all the common filth that is generally taken in the 40k theme so I am trying to build something that is very forgiving for a player who hasn't played a game in 3 months

I decided to bring Orks since that is one of my armies that is mainly painted. A few of the rules in this tournament is that there is no Forgeworld allowed and that with the exception of Troops, there are no duplicate units.

All the games are objective based so I am thinking of a list with alot of stay power and tarpitting.

HQ:
Warboss(w/ Bike, Power klaw, 'eavy Armour, Cybork, Attack Squig)

Elites:

10x Lootas

Troops:

3x 29 Ork Boyz(w/ shootas, Nob with PK)
4x Nobs(w/ Bikes, Cybork, Painboy, WAAAGH! Banner, 1xPK, 1x Big Coppa)

Fast:

15x Storm Boyz(w/ Nob with PK)

Heavy:

3x Kannons (w/ 3 Extra Grots)

Hows does this look? I know it wont take thing off the board but it has the ability to hold objectives and that is what really matters. I am thinking that my Nob Squad will be able to handle some big thigns, but as I said...I haven't played against many of the new codexes and units.

Looks solid for a no duplicates except troops ..the only thing I would run differenet is in the boys squads drop the PKs from the nobz for big choppas and boss poles and load up each of those groups with big shootas

Bike gives 4+ save so asfar as i can see, eavy armour is obsolete.

Also id swap storm boys for more nob bikers or lootas if you are looking to be competative.

Maybe drop the extra krew for more boyz/ nob biker weapons aswell?

Yea, I kinda just threw the stormboyz in there

the main reason for them is

A) if i get the outflank warlord trait they will be scary
B) I wanted to play the mind game in that "OMG there are so many of them, what do I shoot, I am going to lose"
C) I rarely use them and wanted to see them on the table

Other than that, i know they are sub-par choice.

If I do rock another squad of 3-4 nobs(since they can be elites i dont duplicate) do I just add more to that 1 squad?

Yeah, a unit of 4 wont last very long. Id add to them.

I would run this list with a few changes. It's not super competitive, but it is a tough list and fun to play.

HQ:
Warboss - bike, PK, cybork body

Troops:
29 Boyz (Nob with PK) x3
6 Nob bikers - painboy, 2 PKs, cybork bodies

Elite:
10 Lootas

Fast Attack:
8 Storm boyz (Nob with PK)

Heavy:
3 Kannons

The bikes will be your unit to deal with anything your opponent throws at you, along with giving you a last turn burst to take/contest an objective. Put the 3 regular nobs in front to soak up wounds.

In my opinion, 8 stormboyz will achieve nothing. Your oponent has to kill 2 for them to take a ld7 test or flee. Points better spent elsewhere.

Do you have more Shoota boys? If so I would run 2 squads of them and one Sluggas. Seems pretty decent though.

oh yea, sorry...There are 30 boyz I am counting the Nob separately for some reason.

and unfortunately, most of my orks are AOBR orks so having another 30 shootas isn't possible right now. If I could find a way to do it than I will deff make the switch.

So you have points to work with. What does Ace do for the pilot? That is 50 points too. Pretty expensive.

The fighter ace is from the flyer codex I thought. The flyboss is only 10 points. Am I wrong?

If you have aobr stuff, why don't you use a truck for 11 choppaboyz+pk nob? From my experience, choppaboyz are best used like that. Nope, they don't become good, they're still extremely weak but way better than footslogas. Footslogging choppaboyz are really bad in this edition. To the point of being totally useless in many situations. So, why not take bad over worthless?

Add ammo runts to grot artillery. Besides, i'd use lobbas. They're much better. You'll need this sniping-out barrage.

Another advice is to put a bigshoota on a nob and give them bosspoles. Bigshootas on nobz give you 1 free shoota in a squad and allow precision shots. Heavy armor won't hurt either.

Grot orderly is somewhat useful for a painboy. I alwayz take one. getting an extra 5+ when you desperately need it can save a day. If possible, i'd go more biker nobz. They're gona be the only real threat your enemy will have problems with for the first half of the game (and probably the second cause footslogas are THAT bad in 6 ed), so bare it in mind.

I will think about trukk boyz, since they will allow me to actually do something and It will allow my guys to get further up the field.

The reason why Itook cannons is the versatility, both the template and the strength 8 shot. Would the lobba be better? is strenght 8 needed in todays meta?

Sure no problem.

In my opion if you add trukk boys then your whole army should change. As a long time player of Orks you really don't want to mix speeds with them. You want to foot slog with them all or be mechanized. Since you are already taking bikes then the trukks are a nice way to go.

Kannons would be my goto unit. But with the addition of AGL's and the like, the Lobbas have there place as well. Is taking a squad of each duplicating? They are different units really.

As far as the big stuff goes. You have to either try to ignore them and just go for the objective and win or through your Nobs and Boss at them and hope they can kill them. Orks have trouble with Big things like those, especially at range.

If you went the Mechanized rout. You could add some Buggies or Trakks with T-L Rokkits on them. They are useful for sure. Or you could add some Grot tanks with T-L Rokkits on them as well, not to mention they get 5++ saves.

I am not sure what you have access to in models. How soon is this tourney as well?

The tourney is in April, so I have a lot of time to prep.

Forge world is not allowed so all those are out, unfortunately.

Unfortunatly, since both Kannons and Lobbas are both "Big Guns' they may count as the same thing. I will double check with the organizer though.

There are Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary objectives...and there is a fun mechanics on all the boards where they use Death World rules as well. So I know that I should switch up my whole army but, having a squad of 30 boyz have some staying power that trukk boys and other things just do not have.

I have brought buggies and trakks before, but with only hullpoints and armour 10 they tend to die pretty quicky(athought I may of been unlucky). Do the buggies have a jink save?

Well Grot tanks are legal for regular 40k now, at least I do believe so.

Could go 20 boys in a battle wagon. That has served me pretty well.

Buggies are fragile but the key to Orks is having more targets then weapons or units. Deff koptas could be useful as well with their Rokkits and fast speed.

Mind you I am not a tourney player at all. I find tourneys brings out the Dicks in people.

Yea, they tend too but this is a friendly tournament run by guys who are very strict on the competitiveness of people and tend to squash jerky behaviour quickly. Its a decently sized tourney, about 20-25 people.

And even though alot of stuff is 40k legal, they want to squash that as well to avoid exploitation(same with the no-duplicates rule).

This is exactly 1500/1500.

The lists looks good to me. I wouldn't mix the big guns. You will lose their total effectiveness that way. The boys in Trukks really needs a Boss Pole on the Nobs. The bikers got a bit weaker I see. That could hurt.

That last 1500 list looks great. I like the balance between the static shooty bits and the fast moving melee bits.

The shootas will do well for a take-and-hold situation. Personally, though, I would replace them with those Stormboyz you were considering before - not only are they awesome, but they're also actually pretty solid if you take a big unit of them. They're ludicrously fast for a unit of assault infantry, and a lot of people will underestimate just how dangerous they can be if left unattended. And, they'll allow some extra synergy with the rest of the fast attack forces.

I will play a couple test games..at least one with the dakka-jet, and one with the Storm boyz and see how I fair.

I will be sure to keep it updated on how I do. I came third last year with my orks, and I am hoping to at least come third again

I have never had luck with Storm boyz. I think the Jet will net you more kills. But its hard to say.

Tried a game vs some space-marines with my stormboyz...and although fun! I will not be bringing them.

I did some tweeking and ended up with something like this...

This list did ALOT better, I just camped on objectives with the boyz, and made mayhem with the Nob Star. By the time the nobs were killed, the enemy didnt have the time, or ability to remove the remaining boyz and I won on objectives.

I will play a few more times before the final list(ie, maybe drop a nob for more power-klaw ect ect.) but as of right now, I am liking it
