I rarely post on here, but wanted a large amount of opinions....also, if this has been addressed please point me to the thread?

If the rumors are true, we are getting 7th Ed this summer and it is going to be a "living" rule set moving forward.

What I am wondering is, if this is true, will the 7th Ed rules be printed? If they are printed, how will the idea of a "living" rule set be enforced?

I don't own an eReader, nor do I want to own one....I am too old at this point...I teach English and WANT a rule book!

You're thinking that by living, GW means regular updates based on the play environment for free, like a computer game. What they actually mean is that they are going to make a rule set which is open ended, so they can SELL you rule additions and/or changes in the future.

Because selling additions to the rules is such a new concept. Now hold on a second, let me go grab Storm of Vengeance, Outlanders, Cityfight, Cities of Death, Battle Missions, Planetstrike, Planetary Empires, and every other expansion ever. That's not new or a problem, no need to hold down the shift key to make words seem scarier here.

GW will do "Living Rulebook" at best in the sense that you have to buy expensive hardcovers every one or two years.
And given the latest rule sets (Escalation, Imperial Knight) I wouldn't expect them to "go forward".

I didn't say it was new, however the above are all expansions or alternative rules that you can choose to play. I would expect based on 6th with Escalation and such, that GW is using the term Living in the same way that Fantasy Flights uses it for it's Living Card games such as LOTRs. Living means the game is built to have additions made through out it's life while still following a core set of rules.

I was emphasizing sell because the original poster seemed to be curious how one could have a living game with a book of rules, that couldn't be updated like an online version. The reason it can be updated, is because each new addition will cost money and not swap out things in the core rule set, thus it will be a bolt on instead of a replacement.
