Torture Victim in the Bowels of the Rock

Hello fellow Dakka members. I am currently seeking some ideas based of this rough list I have put together for 1500 points. It will primarily be used for fighting a 1500 point Tau opponent with their new codex. Since I have no experience yet with 6th edition Tau I am hoping this list will give me a solid platform to build off of as I learn how they operate now.

It is nothing super competitive I was just looking for some feed back, and/or other units I could consider that would be a great upgrade when we start to up the points.

Whilst there is much to be said for the versatility of missile launchers, I cannot condone spamming them to that extent.

What's the plan with the Deathwing and Belial? Deepstriking or footslgging? If deepstriking a unit of normal termis with Belial then I'd recommend swapping the CML in that squad to a Heavy Flamer - a pinpoint DS with a TL'd HF will mince an entire squad of Pathfinders or most of a Firewarrior squad.
If you're walking them up the board, you don't want the entire unit just as cheerleaders for the CML, so you'll be moving into Stormbolter range, at which point an Assault cannon is viable - although Split Fire means the CML can be shot at a different target I suppose.

Given the likelihood of Riptides or Broadsides, both long-range 2+ save units, I'd suggest Lascannons on the Devastators, and Plasma guns instead of ML's on the tacticals in rhinos (tying the unit's range together, providing some punch, and usable when disembarking from the rhino) - otherwise drop the rhino and leave the tac's sat on an objective taking pot-shots with the heavy weapon.

Overall, you're in for an up-hill battle. Tau are considered by the internet to be much more of a "point-and-click" army than the Dark Angel's, so good luck and don't get disheartened!

Yeah the main objective will be DS the Deathwing. And the Tau player I am facing is using a more crisis suit based force ATM. Fire warriors are only 2 squads of 10. And as for the Plasma guns and flamers that does sound neat, Another reason I have magnetized my forces, Makes for an easy weapon swap to test out new combinations. And yeah the Lascannons on the dev team does make a little more sense, Stronger weapon and yeah facing a Crisis suit based force ATM would make it easier with those, As well as he is getting a Riptide in the near future but ATM. Its just a hard adjustment playing Space Marines as I am used to my powerful 2500 point nid swarm, Tyranids, Played right seem to have no problem VS tau, At least the way I play them aha.

If you are going for 1750 I would recommend adding a mortis contemptor for anti air. Another strategy is to get an aegis defense line with a command squad and use the banner of devastation with a bunch of tactical squads.
