Does anyone ever truly get clean of
40k, for me the answer is most certainly a resounding no.
After my adventures with Imperial Fists (and the accursed colour yellow) were cut short by mountains of real life distractions I haven't so much as picked up a brush let alone enjoyed gluing in a confined space. That was until a couple of weeks ago when Dakka's siren call drew me back in and I was hit by a lightning bolt of inspiration, medieval knights...in SPAAAAAAACE.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds the process of painting a lot of models the same way tough in the long run, invariably the feeling of being on production line gets a bit much. "If only there were a force where every model could look different" I thought, it was this point that the voice in my head cleared its throat and suggested that I paint the multicoloured Bretonnians.
Of course this was a ridiculous idea, who wants to paint weedy little men wearing garish pantomime costumes?!? Not me that's for sure, no I decided to paint genetically engineered superhumans wearing garish pantomime costumes, much better I think you'll agree.
The idea is to have the marines armour painted up silver just like ye old stereotypical knight in shining armour, on top of that they'll have a robe/tabard/cloak displaying their livery. Hopefully the silver armour will tie everyone together and the varied "clothing" will help to keep me sane.
Work is already underway on the Dark Vengeance bikers I picked up on ebay aeons ago, these poor unfortunates are going to be the victims of my greenstuff "expertise." I want them all at least partially robed but if that proves too difficult they'll probably end up with some much easier chain mail. The real question is whether or not a metal horses head between the bike's headlights would be overkill?
I'm also cracking on with a close combat squad of sorts, each marine is going to have a shield and good old fashioned tool of his trade, battleaxe, mace, flail etc. The robed body and legs are from anvil industry, I want these chaps to stand out from the rank and file once I get round to them.
When I'm not getting paint everywhere or gluing my fingers together I'm going to try and come up with some fluff since this is my first non-codex chapter. At the moment I'm calling them the Knights Vigilant since
GW and their combined fanbase have already bagsied the best chapter names. They may end up being renamed the Emperors Swords because who cares about canon right
