Without going into the annoying lack of relentless, jump infantry, and all that stuff it still has problems with, I was thinking of using it as a clean-up crew. Deepstrike in areas of the battlefield that you want MEQ not to venture to, preferrably with a small squad of Horrors or Flamers to pass wounds around. Torrent does give it pretty nice range even if you have to wait a whole turn. Could force squads to move to where you want them.

It's fairly cheap and you can take four of them but I'd probably just go with two at most.

Thinking of something like Be'lakor, 2 Exalted Flamers, Karanak, 3 squads of Hounds, 2 minimum squads of Flamers, 3 Troops of your choice, and the rest with something the list may be lacking.

Thoughts?

By Exalted Flamer do you mean the Burning Chariot or the Pyrocaster character for a Flamer unit?

How can you take 4 of either?

Also, how can the Exalted Flamer get off the chariot?

I read somewhere that White Dwarf added the Exalted Flamer as a new herald option, but can't find any other info on it.

Really? Is there anything in the News and Rumours Forum on this? EF's as heralds would be quite decent.

Pretty much. New White Dwarf has Exalted Flamer rules. Costs as much as a bare-bones herald but with existing Blue and Pink Fire.

No relentless or any useful things like that, but with how dirt cheap it is, I'm really thinking it'd be useful for board control. Create an area where MEQ don't want to venture into.

Planning to use one as my boss in a 750 doubles soon (White dwarf 7 gives it full rules) the plan is to stick him in a unit of horrors (10) and first turn get forward and depending on opponent getting into cover and staying there popping out d3 las cannon shots or a torrent ap3 depending on target plus horror shooting. He's tougher than the other heralds bar nurgle got more wounds and tzeenchs rerolls on his save, for me he's golden in lower point games.

So wait, exalted flamer has blue/pink fire and no relentless? Well, so much for being useful....

If he's in a unit of enough horrors then he should survive a turn of shooting. Better yet drop 2 with a full unit of 20 horrors and just watch your opponent try and get rid of all of them. Then unleash a couple of torrents or 2D3 Lascannon shots right in your opponents face.

Having seen the rules, leave him as a paperweight. He can't join units, can't move and shoot without snap firing, isn't jump infantry, and generally isn't worth the wasted slot to field him.

It's actually insane the difference between him in 40k and Fantasy too because for only a little bit more points wise he's a lot more useful in Fantasy than he is in 40k.

Does he take 1/4 of a hq slot?

Does the herald have IC?

How many guardsmen is he more or less than a regular tzeentch herald?

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

Wait, why can't he join units? He has Independent Character in his special rules. He's an alright mini-heavy weapons team on his own with a lascannon I guess.

1/4, yes. He counts as a Herald. And a single Guardsman more than a barebones Tzerald.

Seems like a solid option.

Torrent means the flamer has the same range as a regular flamer on a bike or jump infantry even though the model can't move and shoot.

The wall of death can easily cause a charge to fail.

It's really cheap S9 AP2 shots in an army that has lots of cheap access to divination.

With prescience 75% of shots hit and 25% of shots are precision shots.

The models are cheap and discourage people from going anywhere near a unit of pink horrors.

4 shots with prescience is actually decent ack ack for 100 points

2 of them in a unit would scare the piss out of a rapeknight or riptide, and the unit can be used to bully them away from portions of the board.

Oh, you're right. It still doesn't make him useful though sadly. He's just too many point to sink into anything in 40k.

2 of them cost the same as a tfc and go inside a unit of troops or detach if the troops want to move and leave them behind.

My white scars would not be happy seeing 2 of them on the board. GJB probably feel the same way. Don't underestimate 20.5" on a static torrent flamer.
