I am working on a list for play at the local shop. I came back to the hobby this fall and have not had a game since second edition came out. I looooove what GW has done with the White Scars for tactics etc so my list will be a scars 'counts as' army just in different colors (not a huge fan of white!). So far my list is looking like this:

Kor'Sarro Khan on Moodrakken - 150 points

Command squad w/Apothecary on bikes, 4x Grav guns, 4x Storm shields - 250 points

Bike squad, 3 bikes (2 with grav guns), Sargent w/combi grav, Attack bike w/multi-melta - 179 points
Bike squad, 3 bikes (2 with meltaguns), Sargent w/combi melta, Attack bike w/multi-melta - 169 points
Scout squad, 4 scouts w/bolt pistols and combat blades, Sargent with combi flamer, Land Speeder Storm w/Heavy Flamer - 110
Scout squad, 4 scouts w/bolt pistols and combat blades, Sargent with combi flamer, Land Speeder Storm w/Heavy Flamer - 110

Stormtalon w/Skyhammer missles - 125
Stormtalon w/Skyhammer missles - 125

For allies I would really like to get a Librarian with access to Prescience into the list. So far I have figured out 2 ways to do it:

#1 (leaves me at 1498 points)

Dark Angels Librarian, Bike, Power Field Generator - 115 points

Dark Angels Tactical Squad, Drop pod, 4 Tac marines (1 with Multi melta) Vet sarge with combi melta, melta bombs, power fist - 165 points

#2 (leaves me at 1493 points, would toss melta bombs on a scout sarge to round it out)

Space Wolf Rune Priest, Bike - 135 points

Grey Hunters, Drop pod, 5 Grey Hunters (1 with meltagun, 1 with power fist) - 140 points

I am still on the fence about the allies. I like the Rune priest's SW specific powers, but it's kind of moot because I have to give them up to access the powers from the BRB. Which makes me sad because Jaws of the World Wolf looks completely badass. I think the DA Tac squad beats out the grey hunters easily with the Multi melta over the GH's meltagun and the vet sarge has his extra attack for double PF goodness as well as the combi melta and melta bombs. The Librarian will probably be hanging out with the command squad in order to give them Prescience, what I am really curious about is how his PFG works for them when they already have storm shields? Khan has his iron halo so really the PFG would only be giving a save to the Libby and the apothecary, right?

Overall I feel the DA allies are a lot stronger and offer more, although the Rune priest getting 2 powers to choose from is a little more flexible. But at the same time the PFG is pretty sweet. The other thing is the Runic Weapon rules for the Rune Priest seem like an excellent way to protect the command squad from psychic nastiness.

Anyways I would love to hear some opinions, I have everything for the scars already but still need to grab some odds and ends depending on what I take for allies. Thanks!

If you just want a div chump then DA are better. If you plan to delve deeper into your points for allies then SW will treat you better.

Rune Priest wins because of Runic Weapon. He's a one man counter to a lot of the nasty stuff in the meta right now.

And remember, you pick your powers at deployment. So you could take Jaws versus Tau, but roll on Divination versus Daemons

Dude go for Inquisition, cheap and easy Prescience with plenty of options depending on which way you want to go, even psycannons =D

This article was great and definitely highlighted a few things about the Rune Priest that I had not fully appreciated. I worked up a couple new lists based on your ideas. Great battle reports and other articles too, I really enjoyed reading them.

First up the revamped 'Scarwolfs' @ 1499 points

Primary:

Khan - 150
Command squad, Apothecary, Bikes, 4x Gravguns, 4x Storm Shields - 250

Bike squad, 4 bikes (2x flamer), Sarge w/Combi flamer - 125
Bike squad, 3 bikes (2x meltagun, Sarge w/Combi melta, Attack bike w/Multi melta - 174
Scout squad, 4x Scouts with Bolt pistol and CCW, Sarge w/combi flamer and melta bombs, Landspeeder Storm with Heavy Flamer - 115

Stormtalon w/Skyhammer missiles - 125
Stormtalon w/Skyhammer missiles - 125

Allies:

Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain - 110

Grey Hunters x5 w/1 flamer - 75

Land Raider Crusader - 250

I worked up this one too after watching your Grey Hunters video, kind of my way of approaching my goal here from the opposite end of things.

'Wolfscars' @ 1500 points

Primary:

Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain, Bike - 145
Rune Priest, Chooser of the Slain, Bike - 145

Wolf Guard Pack, 3x Terminator Armor, 3x Combi Flamer, 3x Power Axe - 114
(these 3 will be split up, one to each Grey Hunter Pack)

Grey Hunter Pack, Wolf standard, Drop Pod, 5x Grey Hunter (1 w/flamer, 1 w/power axe) - 135
Grey Hunter Pack, Wolf standard, Drop Pod, 5x Grey Hunter (1 w/flamer, 1 w/power axe) - 135
Grey Hunter Pack, Wolf standard, Drop Pod, 5x Grey Hunter (1 w/flamer, 1 w/power axe) - 135

Allies:

Khan - 150
Command squad, Apothecary, Bikes, 4x Gravguns, 4x Storm Shields - 250

Bike Squad, 5xBikes (2x gravguns), Sarge w/combi grav - 166

Stormtalon w/Skyhammer missiles - 125

I like your original idea better of the White Scars primary with Space Wolves allies... I'm not a big fan of dropping all the hit and run bikes from Khan's list to take podding wolves as primary. I'd take White Scars primary and try to include a Runepriest on bike + melta pod Grey Hunters as your allies. I'd also keep as many bike troops in Khan's list as possible. What about something like this?

Khan - 150
Command Squad - bikes, apothecary, 4x grav, 2x Storm shields - 230
Bike Squad - 5x bolters, 2x grav, combi-grav, melta bomb, attack bike w/multi-melta, combat squad (268)
Bike Squad - 3x bolters, 2x grav, combi-grav, melta bomb (150)
Scout Squad - 5x ccw, storm w/heavy flamer (100)
Stormtalon - skyhammers (125)
Stormtalon - skyhammers (125)

Rune Priest - bike, runic armor, runic axe, melta bombs (160)
Grey Hunters - 8x bolter, 2x melta, pod (190)

Or, you could make the Grey Hunters a 5-man walk on unit for 75, and put the rest of the points into your bikes... up to you. That's my 2 cents.

I like this list because you can scout everything up in their face turn 1 and drop the pod same turn so they can't just focus on the Grey Hunters immediately. Might be nice to give them some more stuff like a standard and/sgt. a weapon b/c they'll probably make it into combat turn 2 just like Khan's scouted bikes.

Yea, irion hands irion hands irion hands and to make sure you understand iruon hands. Take the following things and add them to your list. A scout squad IH a chaptermaster shield enternal thunderhammer artificer armor and on a bike. Trust me this guy has it wont die and four wounds plus enternal warrior. Plus on a bike he is t5 he will keep your command squad alive and kicking. Ive seen this guy take an entire army of 2k tau shooting at him and the guy rolled a littpe above average and i rolled average. He only lost 3 wounds but he latter kept gaining them back though it wont die

I can't really fit the Chapter Master into this list. Khan is a must in order to have a command squad, Stormtalons are a must because I know a lot of people have fliers where I will be playing. To squeeze the CM in I'd have to ditch the scouts, reduce the grey hunters to the basic 5 in a pod and replace Khan with a Librarian on a bike (to keep the command squad). This would be still be about 5 points short so ditch some melta bombs too. It seems like I am dropping too much to gain a unit that someone could trap in CC etc... I mean what if some total dill weed Grav spammed/Jaws'd him right off the table ROFL.

Nice! I like the tuning/redistribution here, thank you I think this is very close now to what I am going to be running with, the only thing I am thinking of is possibly swapping Runic armor for Chooser of the Slain and a combi flamer on the scouts but it's tough. Great input so far, thanks guys

Thanks for the feedback. I'd probably go with the list suggested a few comments after this, but just have the Grey Hunters walk on. That will free up points for the Runic Armor (and whatever else, maybe a TFC). That way you get a 2+ save in the unit, and those games where you get Precog you can tank with the Rune Priest. (just beware of Focus Fire, that's the weakness to including a bike Librarian in a White Scars list)

I'd almost consider dropping the Command Squad for a Chapter Master, and attaching Khan, the Chapter Master and the Rune Priest to a normal bike squad. You lose some grav, and FNP, but you gain what is effectively a Daemon Prince. The WS CM isn't as durable as the IH version, btu with hit and run he can break off and go wreak havok by himself, just bouncing around the backfield being a dick. Plus prescience plus Orbital Bombardment is nasty.
