Primarily for Loyalist Marines but really for any Rhino user, what upgrades are still worthwhile?

I like the idea of dozer blades to allow you to hide in cover. Also an extra storm bolter seems a reasonable way to double up your firepower.

But are these wasted for such a vulnerable target?

Yes.

Elaboration: Unless you have a few points to spare, keep them as cheap as possible. They're going to be flaming wrecks soon enough or ignored once your troops disgorge. Once upon a time, they may of been used for actual combat roles in the grimdark future of 40k, but ever since a massive game changing warp storm occurred for the fifth time in history, your simply giving up First Blood in a game you can ill afford to do so.

Blades are good, extra SB not so good. Go Razor back over extra SB.

Dozer blade's all I take for mine.

They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

Bare bones here. Nothing is worth the price.

There is an interesting idea about spamming HKs, but in practice, i'm not sure it's worth the tactical cost of sacrificng mobility to pop them off.

If you are unlucky with your 1's, the Dozerblade is worth it's points, otherwise, not really.

combi-melta, for infiltrating rhinos and dirge casters for 1ksons rhinos as you may want to charge them after rapid firing b/c they have S&P (I wouldnt take for zerkers because you should never put zerkers in those cardboard boxes, land raiders always)

havoc launcher I would not take but I bring it up because a lot of people seem to like the idea of taking it. You'll want to be moving flat out when you can until you disembark. At that point, you'll be pretty dead and I don't think you'll get more than 1 shot off, if that.

I usually keep my 2 Chaos Rhinos somewhere in the back until late game. Havoc Launchers let them contribute to my anti-horde shooting from a safe distance, and once the time to speed toward objectives comes, Dozer Blades help them get through swamps/forests, or simply re-roll that 1 every once in a while.

So far both upgrades performed quite well, and the Dozer Blades virtually turned a near-loss into a victory once. I need a few more games to verify the Havoc Launchers though, since I could probaly use those 24 pts. for something else.

I love Rhinos, but even I'd say that no upgrade is worth paying for. Their main attraction is that they're dirt cheap.

They get destroyed too easily to make any upgrade worthwhile.

This is interesting. I could see havoc launchers being used in this way, especially with a squad like noise marines where you have 1 special weapon, the blastmaster to peek out the hatch

I have a couple of rhinos modeled with Dozer Blades, and since I play WYSIWYG as much as possible, that's all of the upgrades I give my Rhinos.

I have the bits ready to go for the Hunter Killer Missile or extra storm bolter, but they'll never get used.

Khan in the army is all the upgrade a rhino needs. Outflank with a rhino or 2 and start with bikes on the board. They tac squads should be able to rapid fire when they come in, and the rhinos don't give up first blood.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

If you already have the rhino built in, and have nowhere else to spend points, a second storm bolter is not the worst place you could spend points. A dozer blade seems a lot better, and so do melta bombs and a plethora of other upgrades elsewhere.

Dozer blades are useful if you're running several rhinos, they allow you to reliably ignore area terrain during the initial push forward. None of the other upgrades are terribly important.

There are only two upgrades that are worthwhile for the lil' Rhino, and both of them are for Chaos Marines. The mighty mighty Havoc Launcher, which is probably the best vehicle upgrade ever made, and the Dirge Caster. The only problem with the Dirge Caster is that you somehow have to get the Rhino that close to somebody, six inches I think?

But this doesn't mean the Rhino itself isn't worth buying. I think they are great units and they can be pretty useful, if you play them smart. None of this leaving a Rhino out to get popped for FB! You ought to be hiding your prime targets if giving up First Blood is your concern, not tweaking your list.

Just think of the Rhino as an upgrade!

Gets along better with animals... Go figure.
