I completed a Salamanders Space marine army almost 14 years ago, when I was 13. Now 27and a working professional, I realized that I missed the hobby so much, I have recently invested to return. My girlfriend even supports it!- I must be in the twilight zone or something!

I am anxiously waiting on a land raider to ship- (a model I thought I could never afford at 13) and cant wait to get back into it. In the meantime, I have stripped paint off the models I can (including my very first chunky space marine) And look forward to getting my hands dirty again. Most of my models are from '92 and '99.

Inspired by Lester Bursley and other painters on youtube, I have picked up a badger krome airbrush and the box set of Vallejo Game Color.

A few of my like minded friends are dusting off their armies and making new gaming tables. I do not have the updated rules (played 3rd edition) and am not too sure how many points I need to play now, but I currently have a dreadnought, predator tank, rhino, librarian, force commander, Chaplain Xavier (deceased now, I know), speeder, and a few tactical and devastator squads, as well as a terminator squad.

This is my very first of many more post to come. I look forward to learning new techniques on painting and photographing my minis, as well as new games in general (looking at Warmachine).

Always good to see people returning to the hobby

Were currently on 6th. I would personally suggest buying the rules from the Starter set(Dark Vengeance) People sell them on ebay for around £10-15 which is saving you £30. It has everything you need to know in there. And points wise; play whatever you and your friends feel comfortable with. When I started back we played kill team(200pts) Now were up to 2000, but 1500-1850 is the standard I believe.

Kudos, that's some pretty fine painting, especially for a 13 year old! I never made it 3rd edition, had Rogue Trader and then 2nd ed

thanks everyone! So overwhelmed with the tips and positive support. Makes getting back into the hobby more exciting. Ill need to take some more pictures of the models I painted when I was a kid.

Part of me feels bad about stripping the work I did so long ago.

The other part wants to do those discontinued models justice.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Oh god, yes... sort of. I started with Ultramarines and hated their fluff so I went on to make the Space Clowns. Word of advice, if you're going to make a homebrew chapter clown-themed, do not use bright pastel colors. Finally, Salamanders.

I took more photos of some of the marines I painted when I was 13. Now that I am in the process of stripping them all, I am really thinking that I should switch chapters. My two choices at the moment are Imperial Fists or sticking with the Salamanders.

IF was a chapter that really caught my attention back in the day. I loved their look and fluff, and actually almost made them from day 1. For this new army, I may go with them.
