So i have inherited an army from a friend who has not played in quite some time and no longer wants his army. I don't know too much about Fantasy, but I went through the boxes and counted the units as best as I could. I am hoping you guys can tell me if i have the start of a decent army and maybe give me an estimate on the points. Im sure some of the names are wrong but hopefully you guys can understand what I am looking at.
Here goes:

Footmen-
7 great axes
18 great swords
39 bowmen
3 bowmen with banners
1 footmen with horn
61 pikemen
3 pikemen with banners
1 pikeman with horn

Cavalry-
16 mounted bowmen
4 mounted swords
1 mounted wizard
1 lion chariot with great axe
1 unassembled chariot

Weird stuff-
2 arbalest
5 war lions

Lords/HQ
1 mage on swirls with staff, i did a search and i believe it is a Mage of Lothern
1 Prince on griffin- not fully assembled, has mage and fighter body

Sprues
I also have a box of sprues, it looks like there are enough pieces here to fix up anything that may be broken, theres quite a few bits but I am unsure of what alot of it is.
There is also 4 full sprues of bowmen, so enough for 16 guys and 1 sprue of war lions, so 2 more guys,

Hopefully you guys can tell me what i've got here. I dont need anything super specific, but i have practically no experience with the stuff so looking for some help. Thanks in advance.

Well, you have some standard troops, some special and some HQ.
Now you need the armybook.

Seems you have a High Elves army. Well, if you wanna take part in tournaments you're going to need a few more stuff, otherwise you can make many lists with these models.

In the Casualty section of a Blood Bowl dugout

Great axes = White Lions
Greatswords = Swordmasters
Bowmen = Archers
Pikemen = Spearmen (or Lothern Sea Guard, I suppose)
Mounted Bowmen = Ellyrian Reavers
Mounted Swords are probably Silver Helms, but could be Dragon Princes
Mages are just mages, there's no difference
No idea what an arbalest is.

You've got a good foundation of troops there, though you could probably do with a few more special troops, which will be your hard hitters. Grab the Army Book, and if you need any help with building an army, give me a shout or post a thread.

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys, and thanks Shadow.
By arbalest I mean big bow on a stand. It comes with two guys to shoot it I believe.
Ice hear that the sword masters are good. Any other stand out units? I'm not too sure what is good/bad/okay...

Difficult to summarize a whole armybook in one post.
Difficult to guess how you will succeed in games, when we don't know your opponents.
As said, just grab the HE armybook, have a good read and start making army lists.
There are some okay lists you can build with the miniatures you have. Maybe add a general or a few other things.

Alright. I won't ask any more questions until I have the codex. I'm not asking for lists by the way, just some guidance. I didn't get to start myself and make informed decisions about units one at a time using my own experience to guide me as I went, which I would have preferred.

Well, there is absolutely no reason why you cannot do that still, just means you have a bit of a headstart...

You have some solid "leader" choices there, the Spearmen and archers are core blocks. Once you have the book in hand, draw up a couple of 1000 point lists, try them out and just figure our what works best for you.

AFAIK, High Elves can form quite a few army 'types', highly mobile MSU being a particular peeve of mine to face!

Arbalest are bolt throwers.

Considering the ratio of mounted bowmen to mounted swords, I'd say those 4 minis are the reaver champions from the IoB set (that would make it 4 sets of 5).
