So normally I wouldn't ask for tactics against a certain type of list however my buddy has been bugging me to get my stuff built so we can have our first game together. He has all HE calv. He is talking a lot of sh** and I want to make sure I'm at least kitted out against it. I am planning on having my 30 executioners with a lvl 4 life buffing them up. What else would you guys recommend. I should be getting some witch elves soon after and a cauldron of blood but this may take a little more time. I have a couple more boxes of the regular warriors and one of the doomfire warlocks. Thank guys.

Ignore the witches. Get the cauldron. Stick it within 6" of 4 bolt throwers and 30 Darkshards.

Concentrated fire on what I assume will be a prince or helm death star from 4 bolt throwers and a unit or two of cross bows will probably cut the unit in half before they reach you.

Executioners with Life can certainly stop up the cavalry in close range and use your own cavalry/ chaff to counter his.

Dark Riders > Reavers

Warlocks are great for taking out back field threats (his bolt throwers or any small cav units/ eagles, etc.)

I can probably do crossbow men, and I can probably get a few more boxes of dark riders but the bolt throwers aren't going to be possible for awhile. It's probably only going to be 1000 pnt game also

At 1000 points, have a cauldron hiding between 30 darkshards. In units of 10. Then park a level 4 death mage within 6" of the cauldron too.

What would the cauldron do for those darkshards??? Sorry I just know the cauldron is excellent at buffing the witch elves.

Any unit with the murderous prowess rule within 6" of the cauldron gets to reroll failed rolls to wound.

It doesn't specify, so you get to reroll all wounds.

That last bit is a TFG rule abuse...

Murderous Prowess only applies to combat, if I recall correctly, so the cauldron buff would just replace the "re-roll 6's" with "re-roll all failed to wound rolls"

But it isn't.

If you have effect a(muderous prowess) you get result b(reroll ALL failed rolls to wound)

The only way prowess comes into it, is that you have to have it for the rule to take effect.

Thedarkavenger is correct from a RAW point of view, there's no denying it
Then I know that no one in Ireland plays it like that and that tourneys home-FAQed it to only affect DE (no mounts) and only in CC

Yeh he is right, but even as a Dark Elf player I'd feel dirty playing it like that.

I am not disagreeing that RAW he is correct... But as has been pointed out in many other threads:

"If it seems broken, it probably is"

Unless you are throwing down in an agreed upon WAAC match or you are in a grand tournament you shouldn't play against people while abusing poorly written words.

Then again, if your interpretation makes that rule seem totally and honestly viable... I would just clear it up with your opponent before hand.
