Hey guys, just looking for some advice on my current setup:
1850 Tau/Farisght Enclaves
Buff Commander, CNC, PEN, MSS, Iridium, Flamer
Commander #2 (Farsight Enclaves) w/ Drone controller, MPx2, 2x Marker Drone
Ethereal
10x FW with Devilfish (DPod, SMS)
10x FW with Devilfish (DPod, SMS)
3x Crisis with dual plasma, bonded (Farsight Enclaves)
10x Kroot, Hound, Sniper Rounds
Riptide, SMS, EWO, VT
Riptide (Farsight Enclaves), SMS, EWO, VT, Talisman, Earth Caste Pilot Array
Stealth Team (3 Man), Markerlight, Drone controller (on Sarge), 2x marker drone
2x Skyray, Dpod
This comes to 1850 on the nose. Commander #2 attaches to the Stealth team, giving me 5 markerlights, 4 with BS 5 and 1 with BS3 (on the sarge) with stealth and shrouding. Buff commander usually attaches to the Farsight Riptide.
Anything I could be doing better? I was using the Riptides as backup AA, but 3 S7 shots aren't really that great. The obvious progression of this list is to go O'Vesa star, but I'd like to still have friends at my club.
Thanks!

If you're worried about AA, switch the Enclaves Riptide over to a heavy burst cannon. 12 S6 rending shots is much better than 3 S7. You'll actually get much better value out of the HBC than the IA against quite a variety of targets. For instance, it makes wave serpents cry as well as just about every eldar troop choice, its much better vs daemons who don't care about the ap 2 on the IA, better vs GEQ, and quite possibly better vs MEQ. TEQ is the only place where the IA really shines.

I agree about taking the HBC on the enclave tide. With the EPCA, you make very good use of the cannon even if the buffmander dies and you can't twin link(although re rolling failed nova charges is nice). Combined with the smart missiles, and you have a serious dakka machine. With ignoring cover from the buffmander to boot. This seriously buffs your AA defense and overall dakka.
The farsight commander would probably make better use of the talisman. The riptide has a 5++ off the bat, and unless your meta is rolling with psykers gunning for your riptide, the farsight commander could hold it. If you really need, just bubble the riptide in to protect em. I would also get a target lock for the commander so those missiles don't go to waste against your marked target.
The non farsight tide does not need a velocity tracker if you have an ion accelerator. Keep the EWO for deep strikers and outflankers, maybe fliers in a desperate pinch, but drop the velocity tracker. With 2 skyrays and the HBC tide, your fine for AA.
The stealth team leader does not need a drone controller, since the commander has one, and you will be using the BS5 here anyways.
With the spare points, consider a neurochip for the commander, then maybe some other toys like the onager gauntlet or neuroweb jammer. Blacksun filters don't hurt on the skyrays, and you could get an extra fire warrior in the fish with the ethereal for more dakka.

Sorry, should have written the list better, the buff commander has all the toys: CNC, PEN, MSS, Iridium.
I'm liking what you guys are saying about the HBC, I think I will be building one post haste.
Dr. Serling, could you please elaborate on why the Talisman would be better on the Commander?
Thanks

The talisman provides two things, a 5+ invul save, and a psychic defense bubble. The riptide comes with a 5+ invul save, and your commander has no invul save. Giving the talisman to the commander gets more bang for your buck in hard defense.
Now, the psychic defense has a 12" bubble, so the riptide does not need to be carrying the talisman for psychic defense, it just needs to be in the bubble. Certainly the riptide is a much jucier target for most of the maledictions and witchfires out there, but if you keep the commander close by early on, the riptide can still get 4 rolls to deny a power. This does require keeping the commander close by, which could be an issue. With your shooting you should be able to neutralize the psychic threat, or possibly just run away. Most powers are 2' or less. If your meta is full of chaos deamons or other psyker heavy armies and you NEED to protect the tide, I understand.

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. I'll try and post a tweaked list tonight.

Your stealth shas' vre doesn't need a drone contoller if you're planning on commander #2 to provide that buff.

Yeah, I had that on there in case the commander died, but if he's going to be rocking that 5+ invul from the talisman, the shas'vre can do without the controller.

Remember that the steath bestows stealth and shrouded to your warlord too. Stick them in terrain for a 3+ or 2+ cover save.
