It's impossible because of the way the data is stored, sorry.
Edit: WEll, not the storage per se. Enlarging an image involves moving all of the pixels that make up that image further apart, then filling in the gaps. You need a really advanced piece of programming that doesn't actually exist yet to fill in the gaps. I mean, basic versions exist, but they won't give you a good quality image. That's only for CSci-fI.

I think an Avatar of Khaine would be fun.
These are all great, btw. I especially love the part where people whinge because they don't understand the point of pixel art is to pixels in the proper resolution you'd have seen on an old NES game. It wasn't even 640x480. I think it was half that.

I keep on meaning to hook my old (working!) Atari 2600 up to my new large-ish flat screen TV. Play classic games like Adventure! with pixels as big as my thumb. Probably have to fankencable 3 or 4 adapters together to mesh the decades of technological advancement.
There is no school like old school...

I disagree. He does not speak about increasing the quality, just keeping the same, i.e., not getting the blur some programs would add when upsizing. It is perfectly possible, just double the height and length of the image and you are done. Each pixel is replaced by 4 pixel.

You can see the loss of resolution that would give on the previous page. :p

What are you speaking about ?
In both case, the image have the exact same amount of information. It is very easy to go from one to the other. And, actually, you can do that by just changing your screen resolution. Go from, say, 2048x1536 to 1024x768, and bang, the very same image is now displayed twice as big, because one pixel is now twice as big. No loss of information at all.
Of course, if what you would like is interpolation, to use more smaller pixels rather than just getting bigger pixel, that is not at all that easy. But still possible to an extent. However, vector graphics would be way better than raster graphics for that. But then, you would loose the 8-bit style, which is the whole purpose of the thread.

I know this is a serious question, but I had to laugh at “8-bit images” and “losing quality”
There may be some pixilation.
Yeah it goes all blurry when i upsize it.

I'm not sure about how it is in gimp (I'll have to check) but in image re-sizing there should be a option for the type of re-sizing. Select "nearest neighbor" and increase the size by and even hundred of % (for those I used 400%). Automatically Appended Next Post: Forget what I just said, under scale image, make interpolation "none".

Now that would be really awesome, there are more on the way, Bjorn the Fell Handed's dreadnought form is being rather annoying to figure out, also been building miniatures aswell so not as much time.
Infact the first two that i did, two generic leaders, a Chaos Terminator Lord, and a Space Marine Captain with a couple of weapons
