This is just an observation but shouldn't chaos space marines have older marks of armour?
I know fluff wise that Horus mixed up logistics so that his allies would have newer marks but that was round mark 4 maximus I think.
Mark 6 Corvus armour was given to the raven guard
Mark 7 errant armour was given to the imperial fists on mars when the red planet erupted in civil war.

Mark 5 was made all round I think.
So the question is why are the chaos space marines all in mark 7 armour?
And also, even in the chaos marine frame there isn't any studded plates, pads. While I do understand that it is varied with horns the basic helmet is still mark 7.

Thoughts people?

Didn't Horus find the MK7 STC and bribe the Mechanicus to his side with it? (and isn't 8 Errant?)

They loot and produce new armor.

One of the reasons there's been such a push away from legions, towards renegades. Renegades will all have newer armor, letting GW get away with churning out a ton of modied Mk 7. Which I imagine they have more production for than any other model.

This has been changed to suits of Mark VI armour in the hardcover and TPB editions according to Laurie Goulding.

Those are pretty good reasons.
My mistake it is Aquila armour mark 7.

I wonder with the change in some of the chaos range if GW will redo the chaos marine box set. Make them look like the dark vengeance models, or do something better- make a box set for chosen marines. Like stern guard /vanguard with customized weaponry

In the Crimson Slaughter supplement it talks about the armour being twisted and mutated by the Warp so really it doesn't matter what mark of armour you start with if you're Chaos as it'll be reshaped into something new eventually anyways.

No, not really. Mark IV will still have traits of Mark IV, Mark III will still hold traitors of Mark III, and so on and so forth. And that's only if daemons and the gods take an "affectionate" notice of you.

Spoiler:

While heavily mutated, you can easily see that this was once Mark IV armor.
