I'm building an Imperial fist space marine army and im wondering what I should invest in next.
You see im still rusty on the 40k game after taking a long year or so break from it, so where I used to be sure of what to buy for an army, now im not so sure.
I find myself second guessing or sometimes not buying anything at all because im not sure where to take this army build, as ive never collected marines before. Ive always been more of an alien player so things like Tyranids, Tau, Necrons but marines I don't know what im supposed to be doing.

So far I have:

Master of the forge for an HQ (this is temp as im going to replace him with a normal space marine commander and put him elsewhere)
2 squads of tactical marines (each with 1 heavy bolter)
Drop pod
Devistator squad (two missile launchers, two lascannons)
Stormtalon (yet to be constructed)

As you can see I have the basics but no idea what to do or where to go from here, any advice and options would be helpful to this new marine player.
As for play style im rather orkish in tactics, I like heavy tough things and basically like to smash down heavy units that I know can handle themselves, back them up with tanks and heavy weapons.

think of a theme or play style that you like. For example, I use a MOTF for my HQ, so I run a lot of Dreads. You got devastators which are good for IF. You have a drop pod, what are you dropping in? Think of the big picture and work your way down.

Cheers to a fellow IF player. My main pieces of advice:

1) DEVASTATORS - LOTS OF THEM - that's the main area that the IF armies get an advantage.
2) BOLTERS ARE NOW YOUR FRIEND - When you get to re-roll 1's, that makes a bolted heavy army effective in the same way that an eff ton of Imperial Guard lasguns can strangely do lots of damage.
3) THUNDERFIRE CANNON - Non-HQ tech marine can take care of your tech marine needs while also manning perhaps the most underrated piece of firepower in the game.

Oh, and consider Lysander. Unless you're playing tournaments.

PS - Attack the buildings, not the units hiding in them. You get +1 to the building damage table. You're welcome.

I'm loving my devastator centurions in my imperial fists army. I love using heavy bolters/lascannons on them since if they attack a vehicle, i get rerolls on to hit and to wound.

Centurions are a nice T5 with that 2+ save so they are durable until they meet plasma. You can get them in some cover and boost it with the MoTF to get around their plasma allergy.

Not IF but Crimson Fists, yeah bolters are our friends nowadays. I run three sternguard squads dropping in and a dev squad as my standard core.
