I was toying around with the idea of having chaos missions where you achieve some sort of goal and get a reward.
Let me know what you guys think!

Armies: (Mandatory) Chaos Space Marines/Chaos Daemons/Traitor Guard (Optional) Everything else

Deployment:
- Chaos Player has to set up defensive kill zones, fortifications, ambush sites.

Rules:
-The Chaos player must set up a defensive position and nominate one unit as 'the worshiper'.
-The worshiper now becomes fearless and stubborn. The unit cannot shoot and cannot assault. It can be assaulted*.
- Night Fighting. Regular game turns.
- Non-Chaos Players can bring back defeated Non-HQ units
- Each turn a chaos player can bring 1 troop choice automatically
*If 'The Worshiper' is attacked the unit can fight back as per normal combat rules and counts as still performing the ritual.

Game mission: The Chaos player must use the worshiper unit to complete a Chaos ritual. Roll on the Ritual Chart. If the player completes the ritual the game is over and Chaos wins. If the player cannot complete the ritual the attacking player wins. Units 24" from the 'The Worshiper' cannot target 'The Worshiper'.


Ritual - Roll a D3
1 - Unholy Relic Some things are not meant to be found - Each turn one Chaos unit rolls on the Chaos boon table. The same unit cannot be chosen again for this test.
2 - Sacrifice to the Dark Gods: Sacrifice is the language of the gods and blood is their words - Randomly select a model from 'the worshiper' unit and remove that model from play. Roll on Chaotic disasters.
3 - Daemon world: The warp is breaking through Daemons are breaking through. All will soon be lost. - Chaos reserve rolls can be modified by -1 or +1.

Chaotic disasters
1 - Fog: Screams are heard as a thick fog envelops the battlefield - All units must make a fear test prior to shooting.
2 - Tremors: The earth tremors violently as the laws of physics are stretched to the limit - All units fire snap shots. Movement is difficult terrain.
3 - Blood lust: You die today! - All units have Rage and furious charge.
4 - Madness: Do you hear that? Stop! I can't. No! Get out of my head! - Randomly select D3 units. Those units MUST do a leadership test. Any failed tests MUST shoot/charge the nearest unit regardless of unit.
5 - Gravity: As the warp floods into reality so too does reality warp - All units gain fleet. Flying units must take a grounding test.
6 - Lost to the Warp: A portal of raw warp breaks through into reality - Each player rolls off D6. Highest roll losses a random unit.

I like the look of this. Could be good fun

Maybe I'm missing something, but how do you 'Complete' the ritual? And do entire units get to roll on the Boon table? Hell, I'm going to make my 50 Guardsmen into Daemon Princes!

As comical as that can be, by unit I mean a model within the unit. So no 50 guard daemon princes.

Really creative mission! It's got fluff AND balance.

Where do the chaos re-spawned troops deploy? From your table edge?

Madness and Lost to the warp seem a little severe but chances of them coming up are pretty low I suppose.
I would perhaps change Lost to the warp.
Don't lose the entire unit. Instead drop a high str, ap2, pinning template on them like a warp rift or eldar distort weapon.

Keep cranking ideas like these out. I'm gonna try this one with my 40k group.

Thank you! I'd say that the placement of re-spawn should be a Deep strike 3D6 with scatter from the location of 'The Worshiper' as per Normal Deep strike rules.

Maybe I'm thick, but I still am baffled as to how you complete a ritual...

The way this scenario is to be played out is that you roll on a the ritual and then proceed to play the game. The Chaos forces attempt to halt the Non-Chaos forces until the end of turn 5 where it's a roll to see if the game continues. This can represent a last complication in the ritual or something not going the way it's intended. However, if at the end of turn 5 "The Worshiper" unit is still on the table and there's no extending dice roll then it's considered to have successful completed the ritual and Chaos wins. Otherwise, if let's say you manage to kill "The Worshiper" unit prior to turn 5 then it's a win for the Non-Chaos units.

Haha, I made up a similar idea for my custom Traitor Guard book where an Apostle in one of the guard units could sacrifice D6 models in his unit, allocate a model/unit and that model/unit would gain +1 Str (does not stack)
I know it's more of a game mechanic and not a mission, but still!
Love the idea though, very balanced, very fun, and you know some guy's just gonna have a big unit of Plague Bearers with a Nurgle Sorcerer rolling on Biomancy in there.

Thanks for the positive feedback, and for those of you that are going to try this scenario, I hope you enjoy it. The idea came from reading numerous stories about chaos. I tried to make it so that it is balanced and random. No one side (as far as I see it) can make it impossible to win. Still, if any of you guys try this let me know how it played out.
