So I was thinking about starting a new warband, but could not settle on one color scheme. I always liked the idea of space marines being led astray by power and the thirst for greater abilities. Then I realized a perfect way to represent all of this: Marines who take oaths of moment who are led astray by chaos. The reason I think this would work is because IMO marines are all about brotherhood. They really need a squad or other warriors to stand by them. If enough of these marines fell to chaos maybe they would come together and become a warband. This would allow me to paint multiple color schemes and still have a fluff consistent army. Just wanted to know if the fluff side of dakka had any ideas or think this will work? Thank a lot guys!

I doubt it, even oaths of brotherhood are nothing in comparison to their oaths of loyalty to the Emperor. They're almost literally brainwashed to serve the Emperor until their death and it is only under extreme circumstances that a Space Marine even considers turning to Chaos. In fact, most of the time they aren't even aware it's happening (slow corruption) or are completely possessed in some way or another by one of the gods (nurgle disease/tzeentch magic/red mist).

That was a once in 10 millenia occurance, and afterwards those chapters not destroyed returned to the Imperial fold.
