Ive recently been looking through the Nurgle models on GW and I personally coudnt help thinking how repulsive they were. I mean, they arent even pleasant to look at... Imagine painting them, would be torture. Chaos have quite a few ugly models but Nurgle is now over the top. Another thing that's vile is their lore, it claims they represent "diseases" and "physical corruption", anyone sain shouldn't fight with them on the tabletop.
Does noone else agree with this? Yuk.

You expected the servants of a god of entropy, despair, stagnation, and filth who frequently use projectile vomit as their weapon of choice to not be disgusting?

That's kinda the entire point of Nurgle....

Get this man a copy of the Liber Chaotica, so He can see all the realms of the true gods in their glory!

Seriously though, ALL the chaos gods are Inhuman, vile and mentally warping. Nurgle is more obvious, but all are foul in their own way. The models should represent them. Fluffy bunnies and Sparkly Unicorns are not the usual heralds of vastly powerful, trans-dimensional beings whose main focus is the acquisition of souls for eternities of torture.

I'm ... confused, that's the whole point of Nurgle.

They are supposed to look yucky because of the whole God of disease, corruption, and decay, the Plague Lord.

Now, they are supposed to look yucky and disgusting, and than they whipped up some random background to go with the zombie-decay-dialed-up-to-11111-miniatures: e.g. all that God of Decay, whatever...

I know right.

Of course they're repulsive, they are the essence of disease and despair. The antithesis of all that is good in the galaxy. Glistening puss, foul fluids and pustules everywhere... the only thing more disgusting is a boys' school football team.

This is like a theme this week. This is the second thread I have posted on it. Did something create this trend?

The thing is that some people like zombies and monsters. They want to play as them and they want to make them scary, repulsive, and/or demonic looking.

40K nurgle is actually a really interesting deity in that he is the only chaos god that loves hi followers. Unfortunately his way of sharing affection is the infect the object of affection. Nurgle doesn't hate the galaxy and therefore wants to destroy it like other "evils". Nurgle wants to stagnate the galaxy so his children can always stay the same, he wants to share his creations with the galaxy and let them experience his masterpieces, he wants you to let go of your suffering and accept his embrace. Nurgle is not just the disease, he is the stagnating culture that reject change, he is the smothering grandfather who wants you to stay his little grandchild, he is the dead stagnant pond no fish live in. Very interesting character actually with a huge range of conversion possibilities.

One of the things that really sets 40K apart is that you have traditional evils such as slaanesh (lust but also spousal love) and khorne (murder but also protection of the weak) but you also have cuthulu type evil of Tzeentch (change and progress gone too far) and then you have stagnation which is nurgle...who ironically actually matches the actions of "good" deities but who over does everything and is so mentally divergent that his actions cause and are "evil". (plagues, parental love, and stability turn to disease, stagnation, and corruption)

I wouldnt mind them if they werent so green. Until I someone said something (I never read lore) I thought it was some snot entity or something.

If they looked like natural sickness and death it wouldnt be so bad, but comic book bursting snot syndrome does not looke like death or disease to me.

I just dont understand why they look so green.

Mold I guess, but I have never seen vomit that colour. I have seen thick black vomit even (dont drink coke people, too much and you will cough out black thick goo in a fit on the ground), never green.

I just dont like the green.

Well I wont claim that Nurgle EVER made sense to me. But I will claim that i use the hell out of the Mark of Nurgle. Lol.

It is. It is every disgusting aspect of rot, disease and biological decay that you can imagine... and many more that you cannot.

Without death and decay there can't be new life, if things didn't keel over there wouldn't be space for the next generation.

Grandfather nurgle works hard and deserves our praise.

The green is supposed to be puss (which is a light green/yellow color) with perhaps some stagnant nature/clogged swamp influence mixed in.

I personally prefer to make my marines rusted armour and a very light green protrusions like radioactive cartoon tumors. That or deathguard style pale white with pustules.

If you look closely at most of the studio paint jobs you will see that it is actual flesh, green, black, and pinks layered and feathered to blended into an approximation of rotting flesh. Unfortunately a lot of people just spray them green and call it done when the base color is actually a whitish color.

The green spray is supposed to represent the puke that they constantly use...

way better. I have only ever seen snotty green ones with blood all over them. I dont mind as much now.

Why? Because GW decided they wanted a Chaos god based on Nergal, the Mesopotamian god of plague (and a whole lot of other things).
And as the god of decay, rot, disease and stagnation, Nurgle is supposed to be disgusting. But really he just wants to be friends with you.

Not the kind of green I commonly see on the models. The studio ones look better than the player ones I see. After I was told to look.

Well it is tough to emulate natural colors. particularly something that is rather unpleasant to look at.
