Simple green. Available from bunnings. You want the concentrated formlua, not the prediluted one.

IF you are stripping metals you can go a bit stronger.

Thanks. What kind of product is it?
I thought simple green was a dish washing liquid.

I think it is, or maybe it's a bathroom cleaner or something.

But yeah I second Simple Green, it gets the paint off but it's quite gentle about it.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Yeah mate that is the one. You used to be able to get it in a 2L bottle that was a bit better value for money.

Let your models soak in it for 24 hours or more and then give them a scrub with an old toothbrush under some running water.

Sweet thanks mate, a friend just got 80 marines that are in terrible condition and he sold me a termie for 4 bucks so we're each gonna get some stripper to help getting all of that terrible paint off.

going by the title, my first thought was, "with a sheila"...
hahahahaha...

Simple Green is good, but can be stinky if you are sensitive to chemical smells...
keep your bowl in a garage, basement, or shed...
just rotate out your minis every day, and you should burn through all those minis with one bottle...

cheers

Paint like ya got a pair!

Available for commissions.

I'm not sure if this is a better alternative but when I needed to strip the paint from my figures I used a 50-50 blend of water and Detol. Takes about 6 hours to loosen the paint enough for it to be scrubbed off with a toothbrush.
Just don't try to rinse them afterwards with water as for some peculiar reason is causes the paint to become a thick, tar-like substance.
Instead rinse both your brush and mini in the water/detol mixture to remove loose paint flakes.
Afterwards dry them with an absorbent paper towel and let the remaining detol evaporate. After that feel free to rinse them in water.
Your mini's will now be paint free and smell like a hospital; clean
I've also heared that Acetone-free nail polish remover works quite well and should be easy enough to find at a chemist or maybe the local shops.
Acetone based stuff works too but will melt the gak out of the plastic and ruin the figure. I'd only use this on metal models.

So while Simple Green seems to be the preferred way, it's good to have options.

Peace

That's the one, yes. There is also a lemon-scented one that smells a little better, although both of these have been a little harder to find in Bunnings recently. They do have an an orange one instead that comes with a big bottle of concentrate and a spray bottle of diluted stuff (which I just use around the house, so it doesn't go to waste ).

I have good success with simple green though it can sometimes take multiple treatments (depends on how long the paint has been on for).
You can obtain 4L jerry cans of the concentrate simple green from commercial cleaning suppliers for about $30. you may need to look around, I bought some from a company called FBI Sales, they are based in Coopers Plains in Brisbane Sth (yellow pages is your friend).
I have also tried a product called OvenSolve which is a commercial cleaning product normally used in commercial dishwashers etc, it is a great product to clean blackened pots as well, but I believe they only sell to ABN holders (my sister-inlaw has a café and got me4L ).

Also about the Dettol and water mixture going to gum when more water is added, I've done a bit of reading about paints and it seems some paint removers for acrylics work on opening up the paint layer enough for water to be absorbed and make the paint swell up and in the process loosening the paint from the figure. So the extra water is probably absorbed when washed under the tap. This would seem to fit with simple green and other surfactants being effective at removing the paint as I get better success when I dilute a bit, say about 5 SG : 1 H2O.

ok thanks guys, my dad has gone to bunnings now and I asked him to pick me up a bottle if he sees one so I should be able to start tomorrow. quick question:
will it get rid of the weird tar-like stuff the Dettol makes?
